I remember someone n the Forum saying no view is improved by the removal of trees: I suggest this might be EVEN lovelier with some of those trees gone.
Haha don’t be fooled I’m an East Kilbride native originally!
Now the trees are coming back to life I think we will get a good gauge for the light penetration through the canopy but certainly some of the ones over the wall are a choked mass of ivy.
There are still 2 big conifers down the bottom of the garden but I am too frightened to touch them as 3 telephone lines run through them and I know one of them is my neighbours internet 😬
Managed to finish up tilling last night so waiting on some compost and 6x coming on Tuesday. Hoping to take a few days off and try and source a chipper for the mountains of clippings!
Yeh - the neighbours might not appreciate losing their internet... The Camellia might just be suffering a bit of chlorosis if it's a bit yellow. Iron or magnesium deficiency. Was there a lot of other planting near it? It could simply be a bit depleted , in nutrients and water. They're fine in neutral to acidic soil, but it might be tricky getting any appropriate food just now. A good watering and a mulch with bark [if you can get it] or compost will help. If it's otherwise healthy, I wouldn't worry too much just now. Once we can get to GCs or similar more easily, you can address it then.
I'm not far from EK. Just far enough... I wasn't sure if you could see the Luss hills from there. The southern Munros at Arrochar and the other Corbetts in that area will probably be visible too. The Crianlarich hills will stand out on a clear day from where you are too. I can see them from here when I go out onto the nearby road. I'm missing them very much at the moment, especially with the good weather we're having.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
A sandstone tenement in Gourock, is that where they put good things in the bin so the neighbours think you're posh? (Old Billy Connoly sketch for non-Scots info) One of the best views anywhere in the world but it does come at you at high speed in winter so I guess you need to retain a fair degree of shelter. I worked in EK for 13 years and well remember the power washing from the freezing horizontal rain. In July.
The garden walls will help but watch out for turbulence effects on the leeward side. Chipped up conifer will make a good mulch for the camellia.

I remember laughing at the comment made by someone who said 'there's no such thing as bad weather - just the wrong clothing' I said - that's someone who's never been on a Scottish hill - in July'....
@Hostafan1 - re the Gourock phrase, I said it to a work colleague a few years ago [she was born and brought up in Glasgow] and she'd never heard it either

I've told folk down here that I was brought up in Greenock and they've said " so not in , away to one side, like Gourock then?"

Maybe it's a generational thing ? Just us oldies?
She's actually older than me though

That's exactly the meaning. I never asked my Mum what it meant, I just thought it was one of her phrases
