Brilliant haha, makes sense! I swear one of my legs is shorter than the other with the hills in Gourock! Now I know the phrase I’ll be sure to slip it into a conversation.
A sandstone tenement in Gourock, is that where they put good things in the bin so the neighbours think you're posh? (Old Billy Connoly sketch for non-Scots info) One of the best views anywhere in the world but it does come at you at high speed in winter so I guess you need to retain a fair degree of shelter. I worked in EK for 13 years and well remember the power washing from the freezing horizontal rain. In July.
The garden walls will help but watch out for turbulence effects on the leeward side. Chipped up conifer will make a good mulch for the camellia.
We are phoneys and don’t have anything nice to put in the bin, my neighbour has a swimming pool and I can’t even use my bath because the pipes leak into the neighbours below 😂
Yeh - the neighbours might not appreciate losing their internet... The Camellia might just be suffering a bit of chlorosis if it's a bit yellow. Iron or magnesium deficiency. Was there a lot of other planting near it? It could simply be a bit depleted , in nutrients and water. They're fine in neutral to acidic soil, but it might be tricky getting any appropriate food just now. A good watering and a mulch with bark [if you can get it] or compost will help. If it's otherwise healthy, I wouldn't worry too much just now. Once we can get to GCs or similar more easily, you can address it then.
I'm not far from EK. Just far enough... I wasn't sure if you could see the Luss hills from there. The southern Munros at Arrochar and the other Corbetts in that area will probably be visible too. The Crianlarich hills will stand out on a clear day from where you are too. I can see them from here when I go out onto the nearby road. I'm missing them very much at the moment, especially with the good weather we're having.
Depending on where you are I think you can make out the top of Ben Lomond. I’ll have to look up a photo so you can see. I’m fairly familiar with Arrochar but not much more further west of that. Used to love taking the burn path up the front of Ben Narnain and over the back to Ben Ime. With a bit of luck we can all get back out into nature again soon 🤞🏼
I’ve got some compost coming soon but I’ll try and pick up something iron/magnesium based when Cardwell GC opens again

That's where I worked when I left school ( Lunderston Bay, not Cardwell Bay (which I think is closed now? ) ) . I was there for 4 years. It's changed HUGELY since I was there.

Yeah it’s just Lundereton Bay now, always love a trip over there. Do you ever come back to visit? I see you are in North Devon now, my Mum lives in Exmouth so we try and get down when we can. I once cycled and it took me 6 days
The last time I was in Greenock was 25 years ago at the funeral of my eldest brother . I have another brother still lives in Inverkip, but we don't have anything to do with each other.
I think you have a lovely project there @FumblingGracefully. Take your time doing some planning. Normally the autumn/winter is the time for that, but in the present situation, it's not a bad time to do that too. Keeping on top of your pruning and tidying etc will keep you busy as well The Arrochar hills would be the most prominent from where you are - most of the ones further west [and far enough south ] are Corbetts, and are great wee hills, but Beinn Bhuidhe, up at far end of Loch Fyne, is almost due north from you. Nice hill - long walk in, or you can cycle. Good views from it too, over the Tyndrum and Dalmally hills. Narnain is great straight up the 'front', over The Spearhead. Hopefully, you'll get time to get out on a few hills, once we get clear of this virus.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I work for Calmac, as soon as we are able to move freely again I’ll be jumping on the ferry to cycle out to some hills!
We had a lovely day in the garden today, Fern painted some garden furniture a neighbour kindly gave us.
I’m ready for composting the bed, we finished early today and just chilled out on the grass with a few beers listening to the wee birds singing away 🍻
I hope this time next year the beds are full of life and not so barren.
Aye, lovely spot that. I was born in Dunoon, live in Ardrishaig now!
We are big fans of Dunoon, we shoot over to Ben More Botanical Gardens as often as we can. My girlfriend is a trainee teacher and did her last placement at the high school. She loved it
It looks great @FumblingGracefully. I think you can award yourselves something appropriate - chocolate/beer/cake. Delete as required. You've probably done that already....oh yes - I see you've had the beers... You do realise that as soon as the lockdown is lifted, it'll p*ss with rain for the next six months....
@John Mac - I bet Ardrishaig has been lovely recently. Not been there in decades. My sister's friend lives in Lochgilphead.
