@Victoria Sponge I am remember asking you in late 2019 about your two persicarias , I did visit Harlow carr around a similar time which had loads flowering their socks off.
I do like the colour / flowers and it bring out the pinky undertones of Lady of shallot , flowered well into late October from August . The foliage still looks weed like to me it a thought I can't shake, I do have geranium Orion planted infront to help over its ugly foliage hopefully it will fill out this year.
@Mr. Vine Eye ..oh ok... my mistake.. I can see they're both enjoying the garden... I always thought you had a daughter.. maybe mixing up with another member..
@Perki ..yeah, I know what you mean about Persicarias.. they do look weedy, the foliage reminds me of Dock leaves... also tough plants to lift and divide I found, and of a spreading habit... ...this is Persicaria amplexicaulis 'J.S. Caliente'.. the flowers start pinkish but turn a deep orange/red later, which blends better with Rudbeckia deamii at that time..
..some more summery pics... not all from last year mind.. I have thousands of photos going back 10 years.. it's mind boggling..lol.. ..a Spring one.. Clem. Francis Rivis / macropetala 'Markham's Pink'.. 'Mutabilis'.. 'Bonica'.. Lavatera something or other..
.. a maelstrom of roses... let them fight it all out.. Totttering by Gently / Anne Boleyn... Clem. Mme. Julia Correvon seen through Verbena bonariensis... Clem. Etoile Violette / Minuet... both rampant.. one is quite enough.. I like Minuet..
Clematis are very Marlorena another plant you can't have to many of. I like the Rudbeckia dreamii and thinking about changing my R.Goldsturm for it, i'll see how my GoldSturm do this year, not much difference but Dreamii looks a softer and not quite as brash unless its just me .
A nice dry day here, 7°C, perfect weather for winter gardening. I planted one rose which I had temporarily heeled in my vegetable bed, moved another rose and sowed some OP rose seeds I had in a fridge.
I can beat that @Edhelka, it reached 10c today! Pruned my Penelope rose which is in front of a wall in a big raised border but forgot I usually take steps with me to get down again - got marooned for a bit, silly me. That's the first rose pruned, about 23 to go. Really enjoyed getting out in the garden and doing something today.
Some of the foliage on them is worse than others I think @Perki. Fun to try new plants though and see how you like them.
Jealous of you all with the balmy gardening weather! I wanted to plant out last year's potted roses but all still frozen solid. I moved Armand Zinch slightly though to put a new fern in front and replanted two small areas where some building work has finally finished (no roses though, very shady).
It was sunny again this morning and dry so decided to start digging the hole to plant the first of my potted roses. I had to do it using just a hand fork and trowel because it's in a waist high raised sleeper bed against a wall. Made a real pig's ear of it unfortunately. Dug down to subsoil clay, mixed in manure and some of the fungi stuff. OH came to help and while I was fetching some scissors, decided I hadn't dug the hole deep enough so dug out and scattered my additives. Then, we pulled the rose of its pot with some difficulty, dropped it in the hole the wrong way round, picked it up, turned it round and most of the soil fell off. Put it back again and decided it needed to go in even deeper so had to have another go! If the poor thing survives, it will be a miracle. Talk about how not to plant a rose. Hope the next three are easier.

although he does often put it on backwards so it ends up looking like a bonnet! 😁

Great, you all are able to start some gardening for this year.
I created another little twiggy posy today with sarcococca. I am so missing my roses.
