@peteS I’m going to be trying Sulphur Rose as I noticed today that one of my roses, Reine Victoria, has started to develop powdery mildew 😖 In addition to blackspot of course... terrible disease resistance on this rose. I don’t spray but as SR is safe for wildlife, no harm in seeing how it does. I’ve read it may leave a white cast on leaves, will report back whenever it arrives.

Going off other posts, I feel my roses are somewhat behind. The one in the 1st picture is Gentle Hermione and the 2nd one is the ever reliable Gertrude Jekyll. I did prune late this year, and probably a little to vigorously, and Gentle Hermione has been moved to it's present position about 6 weeks a go, so that might explain their slowness, but both are just showing signs of new growth about to burst out.

@peteS If they were pruned or moved recently, don't worry, they look good.
Is your Hermione really as low-thorn as it looks? I ask because mine is as thorny as Gertrude Jekyll. But when I try to google it, she isn't described anywhere as too thorny. Weird, because I don't think I have her mislabeled, blooms, fragrance and leaves are correct. Other people, who grow her, what do you think? @Omori @Marlorena

    ..quite thorny I would say..

PeteS's roses look well behind for some reason... I would have expected Gertrude Jekyll to be full of buds ready to burst at this stage...it's a great May rose..   they have the look of early March rather than late April...

@Mr. Vine Eye   I had a sparrow trapped in my greenhouse today... this happens every year.. not for long I hope, by the time I got around to opening the door... I hate to see them trapped like that, they find their way in but forget the way out..
Another bent down a cane of Bathsheba right to the ground.. fortunately it's a bendy rose so no harm done...

Perhaps you'd like to send your sparrows to me, I could always do with some more...

I do nothing about these... people worry about their roses, but these will open perfectly regardless... there's rarely any need to panic about aphids...
