    As soon as the weather allows I want to plant out the roses I potted up last year. I would like to plant one of them fairly close to a rather thuggish pink Japanese Anemone which I think would be very difficult to get rid off. I'm very hesitant however whether this is a good idea or not. Any advice please?

    ...I got rid of my  Japanese Anemone's for that reason...  up to you, but I would give it a wide berth.. they are so invasive at the root, well those that I tried are, i.e. September Charm and Honorine Jobert.. don't know about the others...

    ...thanks so much... to be fair it was the previous owner who put down the gravel, so I just top it up... I no longer need a lawn mower which is nice but I do like grass too..
    ..the purple rose is 'Forever Royal'.. available from R.V. Roger in Yorkshire..  a shrubby floribunda with a good scent and continuous bloom..  about 4 x 4 feet..  a really good rose actually, and one I couldn't be without...
    ...hope all goes well with your garden plans...   I might post some pictures of yesteryear before we retire this thread... others can do as well if they want... bit of a look back session..

    @Marlorena Id love to see more pictures.  Weve kept the front garden grass but the hounds are destroying the back lawn, so gravel and patio time :)  I'll post some pictures once its all blooming.  18 new roses this year and about the same existing so hopefully a good summer show!
    I do like that rose, I'll have a look for it, excellent if its scented too!

    Thanks for that @Marlorena, that was rather what I was expecting. I did have a quick look at the available space this morning and could plant the rose another foot or so away from the JP, either that or repot it into a much bigger and deeper pot in the same place. Decisions, decisions. I like the look of your purple rose as well but just no room for anymore!

    @Marlorena, your Forever Royal looks gorgeous, I’m glad I ordered it but hope it does ok in my summer heat. I’m going to plant it in morning sun/part shade and keep my finger’s crossed. Meanwhile, the winter chill continues, but we certainly got off lightly, snow-wise - shopped in our main town just to the North of us today and the snow was lying thickly on the ground. Newly planted Mutabilis has had a bit of a shock and suffered a fair amount of dieback, hopefully it will recover.

    @JessicaS a couple of people on here have ordered from Cottage Memories and were equally pleased with them, sounds like a really good supplier. I liked your montage earlier and looking forward to seeing all your new roses.

    My Secret Garden plants arrived today... all good...  and the plastic packaging inside can be recycled..

    @Nollie
    ..I hope your Mutabilis makes a good recovery... the established plant I had coped with -12 ok one year, but newly planted might be iffy but I think it's freezing wind that does the most damage...

    Those photos are gorgeous and just what we need on a wet, dreary January day @Marlorena, so thanks for posting.
     I was actually thinking earlier that my beds were too crowded and wondering whether to take plants out to give my roses more room. I don't think I'll bother now!

  • Wonderful photos! Great to see some colour.  I don't know if I have anything rosy to share but I'll have a look.
