This would be my personal advise @zarahbruce

With Blackspot try not to water the foliage, give a deep watering from the base (once a week is usual advice), and something you could try is a seaweed extract drench, every 10-14 days.
I’m not sure if the companion planting works but no harm, as long as they are not overcrowding the roses, which is not good for air circulation around the foliage. Try to keep the area under the roses clear of debris, weeds, etc (good hygiene).

As Marlorena says, they get stronger with age, and she knows her business so I would always defer to her advice 🌹 I’m not sure what your yellows were but some roses are better than others for disease resistance.

  • Hello,
Thank you for your adviceI will try this out, its a bit of a shame to not have things near them, but maybe that is what I need to do. The banksia is just in flower, I hadn’t checked it for a couple of days. I love that it is thornless! I will post photos of the others when they flower

...nothing wrong with those at all... one yellow leaf that can be pulled off, but doing really well..  your Banksia is beautiful... Rosa banksiae Lutea'... it does grow rather large in time...

First bloom on Warm Welcome. This is my second one, waiting for me to decide where to plant it, since I changed my mind and held on to Golden Celebration, which is was going to replace:

Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.

Zarah those look healthy to me? You can plant things near your roses, I do, I just meant if it’s crowding and causing problems.

  • @Marlorena. Thank you for that advice.  Yes, city of York does have one or two roses for a second flush in autumn, not a lot. So I think it’s cutting down to two shoots. Many thanks. Valerie

Mine was in full sun, and restricted in a bed, now it's on a wall facing north with morning sun and no competition @Mr. Vine Eye
