  • @AlliumPurpleSensation I have come across summer song when I visited David Austin’s rose garden last year. They seemed to stay in that amazing shade of deep orange - even the older blooms. Beautiful fragrance that was different from other DA roses too. I did however notice that the whole bush seemed to be covered in black spots.. I am not sure if it was incidental or whether it says something about its disease resistance.. It was on the top of my wish list before but now it’s been demoted to the second tier.
Thanks for the extra info.  It does sound like it is what I'm after.
Not too worried about Blackspot, I've learnt to live with it and I'm not a perfectionist.

Ha, I was waiting for you to say but you can grow another one in the empty middle, or a clematis @Marlorena 😆

Sir John Mills is a lovely clear pink, @AlliumPurpleSensation. I too was interested in Summer Song, but I know it would turn salmony pink in my weather so resisted.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
  • @AlliumPurpleSensation I have summer song too!!

it gets very bad black spot and in my opinion is certainly the worst looking rose in terms of shape. If it wasn’t for the flowers I’d get rid of it tomorrow as the flowers are lovely with a beautiful smell. The stems struggle to hold the flowers up for me and some even bend completely with the weight so sometimes flowers need picked.

so I don’t want to put you off at all as you will love the flowers and the fragrance I’m sure. Also my plant has been in about 2 years so far so still isn’t completely established yet!!

Thankyou, at least I'm potentially going to get with open eyes  :)
