@peteS thank you for the tip PeteS, RV Roger seem to have a good selection and prices aren't bad either! Good to hear they deliver quickly, I need instant gratification for my rose obsession
This is Starlight Symphony, against the shady wall at the back of my garden. So far it is healthy, with lovely glossy foliage and doesn't seem to mind having only a little sun. It was planted in April as a bare root, I specifically wanted white, open flowers to stand out against the dark wall and a shortish climber. So far so good. I have clematis Blue Angel next to it and when they are both established I will encourage them to mingle, hopefully will be a happy marriage.
...just to say about R.V. Roger... I've ordered bare root roses from them [well only one actually] but it was a first class bare root... there is an option for Grade A or cheaper Grade B.. and they have a good selection ... ...I've also ordered bare root perennials from them, all were excellent but if you leave ordering until later in the winter, you will be at the back of a very long queue... so best get in early, they have a good choice there too..
Thanks @Nollie - does Kordes post containerised roses to the UK? Ideally I'd like something planted soon so that I can enjoy it for the summer. I have been tempted by Laguna (another pink I know ) https://www.rosen.de/en/garden-roses/collections/climbing-max/laguna?c=780 but it looks like it's good for cutting as well as fragrance and disease resistance.
@Lizzie27 - I did consider Claire Austin. I'm intrigued what you mean about 'incurved' and outward facing blooms? The Generous Gardener and Teasing Georgia also are very appealing!
I rather wish rose growers would choose better names. I don't know why but I find roses named 'warm welcome' or 'Gardener's Glory' a bit off-putting. Similar to 'Golden Showers' and Casino. I realise that coming up with names must be really hard, but I do wonder if that's why I'm drawn to European roses and DA roses ...
@Katsa I know what you mean, if I don’t like the name I likely won’t buy it, just doesn’t add to the nice feeling. Warm Welcome I like because it is sweet sounding and suits the colour. I’d never plant Golden Showers, or Betty Boop, or Playboy, to name a few 🤮
