Taking a risk with Saphir, not much info anywhere but I was told by someone from continental Europe that it seems to enjoy colder periods more than the usual summer heat and should be ok with rain.
..that's ok.. just something to look out for in case you ever see it..
..I'm not sure @poppyfield64 about the rest of Europe.. perhaps a case of ''you get what you pay for''?... I've not seen it in the other roses I got from them but I was a bit shocked at the sight of it, to be honest.. ..your roses pictured earlier are gorgeous by the way, and I've just enjoyed a slice of Saffron Cake, sent up from Cornwall [not much saffron in it these days it seems]..
.. @edhelka ..I've had my eyes on Starlet Melina each time I see the Tantau catalogue.. I also watch a video from them on youtube which highlights that rose.. and it's outstanding..
@Marlorena is that what this on Felicia. I thought it was blackspot as it has almost completely defoliated and this is new growth since the weather has got a bit cooler. You can also see that that new growth which has a bud on is very droopy. I have been watering it even though we have had lots of rain tecently It is in a pot at the moment and I thought it might be better in the ground so was planning to move it when dormant. It might be moving to the tip if it's going to be a problem.
@Suesyn ...no, that's not Rose Mosaic... nothing much for you to worry about there at all, I wouldn't even bother picking those leaves off at this stage.. ... Felicia is not a rose for a pot beyond a season... and it's probably dry at the root even though it may seem moist on top... your rose may also have ants in the pot... I have lots of ants nests in my roses at the moment, both potted and in the ground, and they do cause problems for young roses even though I leave them alone as they do not trouble established plants so much..
Talking of rose diseases, @Marlorena all my TCL roses from last year are very healthy but my new Chateau de Cheverny from Agel Rosen is slowly dying, cane by cane. The other three roses bought from them at the same time are perfectly healthy.
First it arrived with Botyris blight, I cut back infected stems to seemingly healthy tissue. Then a cane got stem fasciation, which you kindly identified, so that was cut out completely. Further canes developed very slight ridging, but not the full flattened pattern and the canes sickened and lost all foliage. Of the two remaining stems, one is drooping and the other is blackening at the base and on it’s way to being dead. Do you think this is a continuation of fasciation or something else? I would really appreciate your opinion as to what’s going on. Here are some photos showing how it begins before the canes keel over and die:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie ...not having much luck with this rose.. they really should replace or refund on that but what can you do?.. ... fungus canker is what I see there, at least that what I always refer to it as.. and have seen it many times unfortunately... if the black is no more than 50 percent around the stem, it can survive, and I've been surprised by that in the past, but if it's gone totally around the stem, it's finished.. and with the yellowing leaves working their way up, it seems that way.. have a look and see.. ..too wet compost can cause this to happen but another reason is transference through infected secateurs.. ..you may know this but I'll just say anyway, that you're supposed to wipe your blades with a disinfectant after each pruning cut, especially on roses that you suspect have diseases in the stem and you are pruning them out... a quick going over with a disinfectant anti bacterial wipe is enough... before you make the next cut... if we don't do this, then the fungus is transferred from cane to cane, rose to rose..
..it seems you still have a decent cane lower right.. let's hope that one survives, but this could turn out to be just a dud with physiological issues you've been sent I'm afraid..
@Mr. Vine Eye ..I like your little pond.. I've been wanting one like that myself but not sure if I could cope with the digging out.. please keep me informed of your progress as I'd like to know what kind of a job it entails... realising my limits on this sort of thing.. but it's something I've been thinking about all summer.. what are the measurements of your pond please? what is it made of?.. thank you.. I wouldn't want to spend too much..
@rock_hen ..I love The Poet's Wife.. I used to have one, but it got too big for me, like they usually do.. scent is wonderful and I found it to be a very long flowering rose, always in bloom.. rather gangly though..
