Remember though that blooms can last longer as new roses become more established. My Generous Gardener blooms last ages now, even though it’s in the most exposed part of the garden and we’ve had wind and rain all season - in comparison last year they only lasted a couple of days.

Oh help! The newly planted in May climbing white roses, are covereed in white powdery mildew , from head to toe, 3 foot of growth! They were doing so well. Never had this before, so unsure what to do. Pull them out? Use nasty sprays? I can't believe plants in the open twining around posts could get this, this bad in only a couple of days, as they were fine when watered on Tuesday 😭

@Tack Thank you. Our front garden is the wildest on in our street, most are just lawns or narrow borders. At least most people still have lawns and not parking lots thanks to the slope.
I have Jacqueline Humery. And so far, it doesn't have a strong fragrance. It could be its immaturity or my nose. The fragrance is weird, I don't know if it comes from multiflora or arvensis and I don't know how to describe it. Not like a rose and maybe slightly myrrh? The type of fragrance that I don't perceive as a fragrance on its own but as a subtraction of the sweet rose note (which is how I perceive most myrrh-based fragrances - they are not unpleasant for me but they all feel weaker and like missing something, something important that makes a rose smell like a rose).

Thank you for taking the time for me @Marlorena . I do like the look of that PD, the dark leaves are striking. I like the clear yellow eye, I think I do lean to a single ish  flower.  If it's not too much trouble a pic of a mature plant would be great. Souvenir de St Anne's is also interesting, maybe too pink but nice large blooms. I think the thorns of a rugosa puts me off too much. I will look into these tomorrow. Thank you

Anyone have partners who don't like roses?

My wife is really not fussed about them at all. Very uninterested. Which is fine I wouldn't expect her to like them as much as I do.

However she also seems to have a completely different nose to me.

I got her to smell Vanessa Bell, which I think is a wonderful scent but certainly not overpowering. In the vase it's just a very gentle sweet smell, with a bit of banana and lemon. So I thought not one that anyone could disagree with.

But when she sniffed it she actually vocally "Eurgh!"ed and said it was horrid.

Anyone want  a rosa glauca seedling?
It's  about 2 years old  I'd  say. Not an instant bush! Will probably take off in a couple of years.
No takers on swap thread so I  thought I'd try the enthusiasts.

    In London. Keen but lazy.
