I have a rose on my list called Novalis which is a colour I call lilac (but might not be) a very light purple with a grey tinge which I think would look nice with Empereur Charles IV but not sure about Astronomia @edhelka.
I've had these difficulties with several rose spaces this year, considering colour match issues and not wanting to outshine a more demure rose with something glaringly fancy.
I've never looked on the Tantau website before, fortunately I didn't see anything I needed. It was a bit funny seeing all the fancy roses posing in bouquets and next to stylish furniture...they wouldn't be living like that in my soggy windswept garden.
Snap, @edhelka! I have but don’t actually like Bonica, it’s kind of ‘meh”, not clear pink here, more a pale, muddy colour, so I have also been looking at more lavender-toned roses. I was considering Love Song (available from C&K Jones) for a cool lilac pink.
Also Excellenz von Shubert. There seems to be several versions/misIDs on HMF. I suspect it’s the pink polyantha of little fragrance one sold in Europe, rather than the maybe hybrid musk purple fragrant version. However, it’s still pretty and think it would look nicer than Bonica, which has zero fragrance anyway.

For those of you interested in old garden roses and fancy some rose porn, this is an excellent site to drool over and you can practise your French at the same time 😃
Rose porn indeed @Nollie. Whilst drooling, an image has popped into my head where I am in my garden, living in the perfect climate...no wind, not too much rain, enough heat..but not too much...surrounded by a collection of those beautiful, fragrant old roses, growing perfectly and all free of BS...oh, just looked outside, I'm back to reality.
I'd like to join you there @peteS.....sounds wonderful and an escape from our howling winds which is blowing every bloom off.
I just thought I would share this photo I took a couple of years ago. The house is opposite my Aunt and Uncle on the Moselle in Germany and has the most amazing climbing rose. I wouldn't mind being there now as the climate is so much nicer than here.
@poppyfield64...so far not as bad as was predicted up here, but I can't help feeling that rose idyll will become a very very distant image in the next few hours.
@Victoria Sponge I've heard too many bad things about Novalis. Fading to a muddy colour. Balling and browning in the slightest rain. And these are reviews from continental Europe.
On days like today, the greenhouse is the place to be... no wind, no rain, warm and the scents on roses are concentrated and more powerful as a result..
'Vanessa Bell' today, this single bloom is fabulous, real lemon but I also note a clove mixed in .. really strong, much stronger than outside..
'Windflower'... opens strong tea scent, quickly changes to a gorgeous clove/cinnamon fragrance, quite overwhelming... I don't suppose these blooms would last long outside.. ...yesterday and today..
..strong apple/damask scent from Gabriel Oak.. ..for those growing 'Gospel' ['Proper Job']..
@celcius_kkw That must be a worry with your Royal William. There's always something with roses!
Question for you please as pot consultant. As you can see I have several Elho anthracite coloured pots. I need more, would mixing in the same pot design, in the same and different sizes but in the Living Concrete (lighter grey)colour look ok? Or have you stuck to one colour? I'm wondering if any more dark grey would look too austere.
Edit. I should throw this question open to anyone who groups pots and isn't going for a totally mixed look, which can also work. But already having 5 the same and wanting to add to this group would introducing another grey work do you think?
