    Thanks for the info on Scarborough Fair, Marlorena, I'll try and remember that one. It is very pretty.

    I took a couple of blooms from my Rosarie De L'Hay... the scent is pretty fabulous. I'm fairly sure one of my neighbours had it in their garden when I was a kid, me and his daughter used to make 'perfume' from the petals mixed in water. Funny how smells take you back.

    @poppyfield64 The GJ has been flowering since May without a stop. It seems to have had its first flush then its second flush without a break. I couldn't get a 360 photo but there are flowers way down and around the back. Not bad seeing as I don't have full sun all day. It wasn't as good last year so I gave it a good talking to when I pruned it. Seems to have worked. It's just a pity the red rose next to it is looking so droopy but I'll try @Marlorena advice and scatter some potash around it. I get very attached to my roses even if some are quite pathetic but I can't seem to give up on them. Each of them has a memory for me.

    ...where did you get your Gertrude Jekyll rose from please?  I'm asking because it doesn't look like GJ to me.. more like one called 'Corvedale', although I've not grown that rose..
    ..GJ has fuller blooms than that, and a lot more thorns..

    @poppyfield64 - yes it was I!

    I can highly recommend Royal Jubilee - it’s flowered for such a long period, the blooms last really well even in inclement weather, it has a lovely strong fruity scent and as Marlorena said it’s really healthy.

    I got it for this spot based on Marlorena’s recommendation originally. Was planning on getting a Gertrude Jekyll.

    @Marlorena I bought it at a local garden centre. It had the David Austin label with it but I'm not too knowledgeable about roses (apart from feeding in the spring after pruning) so they may have got the labels mixed up. The scent is to die for.
    It's about 4'6" high and the leaves hide all the canes which are very upright . The thorns are very red and quite big and fleshy. I've had a look at GJ on the DA site and you're right. my imposter GJ doesn't have enough petals. But, the Corvedale seems to have serrated (don't know the correct term) petals which mine doesn't...... the plot thickens

    Type your commentate then couldn’t resist this China rose It doesn’t have any fragrance but I think it will be a good foil for other plants and also cut stems in the house

    @Pam285 Love the photo of your Masquerade. It brings back joyful memories of my old aunt who passed away in the 1960s. She didn't have a garden but had one pot at her back door with a Masquerade. Each year she would sow seeds of Virginia Stock around the rim. I haven't thought about that for years, so thank you. You've made up my mind, I'll be buying one this week.
