675mm average here in my town in East Yorkshire - just checked as the conversation peaked my interest.

I haven’t needed to water much this year though. Just a couple of times a week during that long dry spell in April/May. Reminds me that a job for the next week or so is to sort out guttering and water butts at the allotment.

I wanted to get out and do some deadheading as I’ve fallen behind with it, but it was heavy rain this afternoon so will have to put it off yet again!

I think the 2000mm I mentioned earlier is too much but I can't find the correct numbers. I am finding data from nearby weather stations just above 1000mm but when I check rainfall maps, when I set it to annual and actual, we are in the over 1500 band almost every year. There's obviously something about it which I don't understand. It's probably the maps not covering the mountains precisely enough. But on the other hand, I can't imagine Snowdon summit having 3000 and Beddgelert only 1000. Maybe I should get one of those fancy home weather stations and get my own data to obsess about :)

Thanks all! I got an arch off crocus which was self assembly. Not sure about the longevity as it was £13 but hopefully enough to allow the roses to mature. I had to show my OH that it wouldn't look stupid so went for cheap and cheerful...so if it doesn't look like it's going to last, I'll get a more robust arch and cut in half...

@poppyfield64 yes GJ does have a lovely scent but this flower doesnt seem very strong, certainly not as strong as the bud on scent from heaven. I will post a photo when it finally opens! I gave my boscobel bucket loads of water this afternoon as it is hot in Norwich and it the buds have all perked up quite a bit!

@WillDB - good to know! I'm based very close to Sheffield so i will have to go and have a  look. What did you come away with?

    R. Rugosa 'Rosarie de L'Hay and R. glauca @Katsa

It's a tiny place but a good selection of healthy plants. No parking but there are verges nearby. I was ostensibly on a trip to look at the new "grey to green" landscaping in Sheffield - which is well worth a trip if you're nearby, I was very impressed

Ooh which part of Sheffield @Loxley? We lived in Crookes previously, so very close. Haven't heard of grey to green though ...

@Tack yes we did get around the same time.  Your Boscobel is looking great too, I think we both chose well.  So GJ is a thorny so and so?  Although if the plant is good and healthy I don't think it would put me off too much.

@katsa your half arches are looking really great.  They will look lovely once you have something growing up them.

@rock_hen glad your Boscobel has perked up today with a little drink.  Mine had one droopy one at the side but apart from that the rest are all nice and upright.

The rainfall topic got me looking too and I think I need to move.  Our average rainfall is 1030mm (40.6 inches) and according to Cornwall Live Truro is the 7th wettest city in the UK.   Forecast for tomorrow is 55% chance of rain.
