This is Eye of the tiger, a lovely healthy plant bought last Wednesday at Dorchester Market. It has 14 open flowers and lots of buds to come. It's gone in the red, yellow and orange border so fits in really well. I must confess I do prefer to see the plants I'm buying as online purchases have been a bit hit or miss. The man had a great selection, all grown by him and only £12.50.
I'm gone for a couple of days and there's so many roses to admire!
Not much is happening on the rose front in my garden. Most have now finished their first flush and are gearing up for their next. I've discovered a new rose that has emerged from our hedge - for once my OH hasn't attacked it with a hedge trimmer. Can anyone suggest what it may be? It doesn't have any scent to speak of and I want to say Bonica but could be completely wrong! Here's a couple of photos:
I've also unearthed another rose which was hidden amongst a Lonerica hedge. It hasn't flowered, but I'm wondering if its a wild rose?
Other than that, my Roald Dahl roses are finally starting to bloom - but appear to be half eaten...
...and the bare root rose that I was really worried about and @Marlorena suggested just needed a little more time has put on an excellent growth spurt
@Katsa ..just to say, no, your pink rose isn't Bonica, that's quite different... what you have there is a famous old rambler called 'Dorothy Perkins'... ..your other rose doesn't look like a wild rose, but would need to see blooms really.. ..I also have lots of eaten roses at the moment.. bits gone missing.. c'est la vie !..
Thanks @Marlorena. The house was built in 1949 so I wonder if it's one of the original plants. I'll try to encourage the other rose to bloom and take photos.
My mother sent me photos of her 'Snowdon' rose which I gave her as a Christmas present. She lost many buds to some insect, I hope she will get some rebloom.
I like the cooler weather colour of Princess Alexandra of Kent (but it goes a rather unattractive pinky-orange shade in warmer weather):
On an overcast day, this is the best representation of the true colour of Soul my camera has managed so far, it’s pretty vivid! Developing a lovely fragrance now as well:
A good stand-in for a red rose, if you squint at the border from a distance you can pretend... a short, bushy dahlia called Dreamy, from the Mystic series:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Time to rant: I want some very special roses from a nursery in Belgium. I contacted them via email almost 3 weeks ago to ask about availability. Nothing. I contacted them again 4 days ago using their contact form. Nothing.
