Yes, I doubt if the Chinese told us immediately,  my Hubby had sort of cold symptoms back in January, but lost his sese of taste, its never happened before with a cold, or anything else, he has never liked "hot" or spicey food, now he still cant taste much.

In mid Nov last year, there was an elderly gentleman on our return flight from Hong Kong. He had this awful non stop hacking cough which I ended up catching. The cough was horrendous, I’ve never experienced anything like it. I also had fever, tiredness and was struggling walking up one flight of stairs for a few weeks. Afterwards, I caught a cold as well. I didn’t fully recover until around Christmas. My son who travelled with me was fine at the time.

One of my colleagues did catch it from me and she passed it on to another colleague. I’ve always worked from home and only go in the office one day a week (now stopped).

I can’t help wondering if I have had the virus. When I mentioned this to my son, he said if it was, there would have been an outbreak much earlier. Speaking to a customer by phone last week, he said he and his whole family had similar symptoms back in Dec and his grandad ended up in hospital with pneumonia (now recovered).

There are reports that the virus has mutated and I still wonder if I had an earlier strain which may not have been as contagious as the current strain going around.

Edit: As far as I’m aware, they still have not found patient zero in Wuhan. We also can’t be certain when this virus started because of the cover up by the local officials there.

It's possible. A lot of people around here had symptoms in January that would now be very suspect of Covid-19. I just wonder if they were testing back then or if it is possible deaths were put down to seasonal flu.

I pretty much got berated for suggesting it online in the past. Interesting that now our local area has the lowest rate of new cases in the whole of Essex.

It's speculation of course, only an antibody test would 'prove' anything, but I'm open minded Covid-19 or a weaker strain was in the UK much earlier than anyone thought.

I'm not entirely convinced that the cough thing that everyone had was Covid-19. My entire family had it and some were quite ill but it was primarily a cough and not a fever. My husband had it badly then but had more typical Covid-19 symptoms for a couple of weeks in March so if the winter cough was the same then he's had it twice.

Did the people on here who thought they had the COVID 19 flu, have the flu jab before hand?

OH had the flu jab, he is a lung cancer patient and had by far the worst symptoms, just short of me calling for help at one point, then he recovered quite quickly. 3 of us had it, I thought at the time it was very 'other', not like a cold.

I've had flu a couple of times in my life, I wasn't anywhere near as bad as when I had flu. Cough, no sneezing, fatigue. My son was working at the time, many of his colleagues had it.

Pretty much everyone online says 'it was just a bad cold or flu'. I've had both, was neither and OH was unlikely to develop severe flu symptoms after having the jab.

I can't help thinking what is more likely, some other mystery virus with similar symptoms, or the obvious really, it was in the UK earlier than reported.

Yes we both did ... and in plenty of time for it to have become effective.

It wasn’t a cold ... it wasn’t flu ... the first symptom was a tight chest, fever, total lack of energy and lack of interest in food...  the dry cough went on and on and whenever I lay down my chest ‘squeaked’ with every breath but the nurse said there was no sign of congestion.

Yes we all had the flu jab, as did the in-laws who gave it to us.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I was the same @Dovefromabove I was ill for 8 weeks and had a terrible non productive cough, exhaustion and fever I also lost my sense of taste and smell for 3 weeks.  Never felt so ill.  Doctor tried 2 different types of antibiotics but they made no difference whatsoever, I had to have inhalers to help me breath.  Finally sent me for chest xray but it was clear was due to go for lung function tests when the outbreak happened here and my appointment was cancelled.  My grandsons, Secondborn and her Hubby had it also.  My Hubby was ill too but not as bad as the rest of us.  Funnily enough my mum in the home was very ill at the same time and had to have the doctor a number of times.  Last week she tested positive for Covid but has no symptoms.  Plus two people in her home died of pneumonia at the same time as she was ill.  I don't for a minute think that China reported this illness until they had absolutely no choice.

I read a couple of weeks ago about a scientist that is testing this virus for strains , vacinations etc. He believes that this virus was here as early as late September early October 2019
My OH had the flu jab, I didn't. We were both very ill  in November until just before Christmas. The most awful cough and sore throat  I/we  have ever had. No energy, fever, wheezy and aches and pains. My husband has cancer, I had to call the doctor out for him during December and was given antibiotics for a chest infection. I also had conjunctivitis.....apparently another symptom of Covid 19. The coughing went on for weeks and weeks.
Maybe it's just a coincidence........but we do wonder now if we did have it.
