    Is spikevax the autumn booster?

With the war in Ukraine, the Jubilee and the death of The Queen, covid has been pushed into the background so personally I don't feel that I have the information on the subject that I need to make an informed decision about having more vaccines. I daresay that others might feel the same especially in this area of the UK.
In the first year of vaccines being available I read and listened and had the jabs but at the end of it I felt that my body had had enough chemicals put into it.
@punkdoc can you point me in the right direction to get the information that might re-educate and assure me please?

What is Covid number five? We have had first, booster and spikevax and flu jab. Have we missed one?
There have been five,  I didn’t go for the last one, I think it was offered around May,   but as I knew I’d be going for the flu jab in September and knew they would do COVID as well, I waited.
Its different for us, we rarely go out, or see anyone,  so not really much risk.  If we do have too, we wear masks if we can’t keep away from people.
Stands to reason the South West will be worst in the country,  it’s still full of tourists and they’re very crowded together in some places.

  • I think only over 75s were offered a spring booster so for them the autumn booster is number five but for others it is number four.

Thanks @Lyn I didn't know about the May one. There's a walk-in locally on Saturday. It sounds like that they must doing  the one we had recently.

I think you're right @Singing Gardener . As far as I know over-75s and younger people who are clinically vulnerable have already had five (or could have if they'd taken them up). Over 50 but under 65s like me have had three (no spring booster for us) and will be able to get a fourth soon (I hope!). Under 50s have had three but aren't being offered a fourth (unless plans change).

    @Uff
I don't have the information to hand anymore, although some of it I have shared on this thread.
What I can say is: vaccine efficiency wanes with time, about 60% at 9 months.
previous vaccines have not been targeted against Omicron, but                                     Spikevax is [ although there is no guarantee you will get Spikevax,                               as there is  not currently enough.

It is my opinion and that of 99.9% of experts, that further booster doses will help to prevent serious disease.

It should not be forgotten that COVID is continuing to kill people and that deaths are on the rise, along with hospital admissions.

I shall be having my booster on Thursday. I am an at risk person, so am eligible, even though under the age threshold.

    Hope this helps.

@JennyJ it's good to know we were still too young for some things😉

  • After several attempts I managed to book my flu+Covid jabs yesterday, after waiting for my doctors' surgery to receive a new batch of vaccine.
Two weeks till I get the jabs, then a delay before full protection, but I am glad it's sorted. My brush with Covid in the spring was not pleasant. I am prepared for the possibility of a stronger reaction to the jab than I have had before though.
