  • Neither of us will have been counted and there must be loads of other people who don't appear in the official numbers either.
Yes been saying that for ages,  with no requirement for PCR,  lots going unrecorded.  The ONS survey is the most accurate but I've said before, the way the data is collected means it's always 1 to 2 weeks behind what's actually happening.

Confusing picture at the moment,  local numbers are dropping-finally! National picture shows another uptick in the numbers, some are putting it down to the fact that many of us had our last jab 3-4 months ago and the protection is wearing off 🙁

The increase in case numbers is hardly unexpected given the removal of restrictions, and lots of people ignoring sensible precautions now, as well as the possibility of vaccine protection dropping with time.

Not good in our local hospital either.

Apparently more people are dying of flu than covid though so should we be more concerned about that?

I don't think the flu shrinks your brain either. “ We identified significant longitudinal effects when comparing the two groups, including: (i) greater reduction in grey matter thickness and tissue-contrast in the orbitofrontal cortex and parahippocampal gyrus, (ii) greater changes in markers of tissue damage in regions functionally-connected to the primary olfactory cortex, and (iii) greater reduction in global brain size. ”. At least I hope not.. we are only just recovering from the flu in our household.   :s

Here in the Vendée we get spikes of infection after every school holiday.  The wee darlings get 2 weeks at Halloween, Xmas, Carnival and Easter so many parents just send them to stay with their grandparents by the coast or in the country and they bring their bugs from more heavily populated areas of France, especially Paris.

The main problem here for some time has been the spread of the infection thru schools leading to hospital staff having to say home and isolate because of contact with infected children or staying home to care for children who have to isolate from schoolmates.  That means staffing levels are at crisis point in all areas of hospital care, not just the ICUs.

We still have to wear masks in shops but not at gatherings such as patchwork club and dancing.

@Obelixx from Monday you don't need to wear a mask in shops, only on transport and in medical centers and hospitals, but I have a feeling that may all change again!
