Are folk dour in Devon? On holiday there, my wife was talking to a Yorkshireman who’d moved to Totnes to be closer to his family. “Aye,” he said, “every time someone laughs down here a donkey dies.”
I get that mask-wearing is unpleasant and uncomfortable (particularly when I'm feeling a bit warm in a middle-aged female sort of way) but to me it's a small price to pay if it keeps the shops and businesses open and allows us some socialising. I'm not talking big gatherings, parties, clubs etc, just meeting a friend now and then and having my parents to stay for Christmas. And I've found that I can talk on the phone perfectly well without taking my mask off or pushing it up/down so I don't know why people do that.

Sadly I don’t think Devon has a monopoly on selfish idiots … plenty elsewhere too. 😡
I know Dove, but the reasoning? 😀 I’m not really sure whether he meant masks ruined it last year, or the government ruined it last year, I’m pretty sure he may go on to ruin it for himself this year.

I hate wearing a mask most of the time. My glasses steam up whatever I do, so I can't see with them on - and obviously can't see with them off! I find them moderately uncomfortable and occasionally suffocating. Do I wear one in shops, on public transport and any other indoor public space? Yes, without fail.

in a position to potentially sin as well, reported Deseret News. Recently
other known anti-vaxxers such as conservative radio hosts Dick Farrell,
Phil Valentine, and Marc Bernier also died due to Covid-19, reported NBC."
What on earth are they so afraid of? " “A sin against God’s Holy Word”? ffs.
I find wearing a mask on cold days is nicely warming. If it get a bit too hot I remove my scarf or even jacket as I'm probably in a supermarket with a handy trolley. I found wee, flexible metal bars to insert along the top of my masks which means I can bend them over my nose to fit closely and thus reduce steaming up of reading glasses.
Even the disposable ones here have a wire in them to bend over the nose but, judging by the numbers drooping below nostril level not everyone has spotted that.
I have a lovely bump on my upper arm and quiet tenderness where I had my booster yesterday. No other side effects.
No sympathy for anti vaxxers getting ill or dying from Covid but yesterday I as approached by a woman waving leaflets at me and wanting to discuss a campaign to reverse obligatory childhood vaccinations and, presumably, Covid. I told her I was pro every single vaccine going including the more recent ones to prevent cervical cancer and meningitis in the young and shingles in the old and Covid for all.
She was flummoxed and, after a pause, wished me a good day but I was pleased to see the two teenagers she had in tow raised their eyebrows and looked thoughtful.

I saw him - I also thought 'did he just say that last Christmas was ruined by having to wear face masks?' it's certainly what he appeared to say. No question that Covid messed up Christmas last year, but masks were the least of it. People dying by the hundred struck me as a bit more of a dampener on the festivities but maybe that's because I'm not native to Devon and I don't understand

Jolly well said @Obelixx .... I say exactly the same sort of thing to anyone who expresses any doubts (even the member of our extended family who won't have a jab despite having trained as a nurse😵). The time for English politeness and turning the other cheek and pretending not to notice is past. 👿
As for your Devonian @Lyn ... he's obviously not even thought about it ... he's just spouting poppycock and claptrap because it's what his head is full of. He's probably never thought something through properly since he laid on his back at six months old and wondered what his toes were for.
