  • We both received alerts thst we were eligible to book so I’m booked in for mine on Monday at a Boots pharmacy on a trading estate near the station. OH is booked for his on Wednesday … he couldn’t get a convenient slot locally so I’ll drive him a few miles to a market town down  the road. All seems straightforward so far. 🤞

  • I am beginning to realise how lucky we were to get our booster 6 months to the day since our second dose.  Looking like a postcode lottery again.

"I do think the wording of the message this time smacks of desperation and scaremongering on the part of the government."

It's called total NHS overwhelm and little bed space. 12 hour waits in some north London A&Es. Waning immunity, 6000 covid deaths a month. 19 million people dead by estimations of the Economist (Link given further up the spread).  Flights open to America, Christmas coming, cities like London only 50% vaxxed.

But telling me I'm at "increased risk of complications from COVID-19" when nothing has changed in the last six months (when they sent me a polite invitation for my first jab), and my risk is no higher than anyone else my age and probably lower than some, and I'm still mask-wearing in public places and being careful who I meet and where, is uncalled for.  I can see why they might use that kind of wording for people who haven't taken up a first dose, or for older/more vulnerable people who didn't taken up the booster when it was offered, but to use that kind of wording before the booster is even due is heavy-handed. Fortunately I've done my research and I know that my risk of complications isn't any greater than it has been for the last 18 months, probably lower than it was up to 6 months ago, and not significantly worse than it was yesterday or the day before, so I'll head off to the vaccination centre later today in my own time.
I suspect the government is desperate for vaccine uptake to increase so that they can continue to evade bringing back compulsory face covering and distancing in public places.

  • I think it only means you are at increased risk because you are over 50, not because anything else has changed.

I have had an email and letter about booking my booster. The local GP healthcare group apparently have a convenient site at a park and ride on the outskirts of Guildford which does appointments and walk-ins. They organised our first two jabs and should be contacting us about boosters too but it wasn't easy to find that information.
The site doesn't appear on any of the postcode based NHS lists for appointments or walk-ins. Those lists suggest that I should try places as far apart as Windsor or Crawley or Portsmouth. The nearest suggestions are 15 miles away and would be a difficult trip if you don't have a car.

When I went online to book my booster jab I was asked what my requirements were (disabled access, parking etc).  I ticked that I needed somewhere with parking and was given a range of options ... two within Norwich itself or some more in neaby market towns.  I've booked at a Boots pharmacy on a small trading estate near Norwich station.
OH's alert came a week later and there was no availablility at that site for one of his non-working days, so he took the option of going to a nearby market town and is booked in there for two days after my jab.   Not sure if there's parking there so I'll drop him off and pick him up again, but there were other options he could've taken up.

Edited to say:  Just checked ... yes the venue where OH will have his booster is a large hall/wedding venue with lots of free parking  :)

My daughter has just told me that she is booked for her booster on the 12th Dec the day before she starts her new job! I hope she's ok.

We got ours today. Told if any reaction persists, to contact GP. Yeh right😒
Told her I'd decided not to go for the reaction option. She agreed that would  probably be a good idea.

@JennyJ you don't really expect the system to track every individual's personal circumstances and tailor the invitation for a booster to each one??  Be realistic!

Just as there are still far too many as yet unvaccinated Covidiots there are also many double jabbed people dithering about the booster because they haven't grasped that immunity wears off; new variations are still coming in with greater infectiousness and/or greater damage potential; people relaxing mask usage and distancing so more opportunities to catch a stray bug.
