I think some works companies (and taxis) insist their employees/contractors wear masks and are quite hard line about it. Self employed people in my neck of the woods, not.
The Vaillant engineer who did the boiler service wore a mask, as did the delivery guys who brought the washing machine, despite only popping it down in the hall. We’ve decided to give up our trips out for coffee for a while, but I was a bit over the top anyway. Not only carrying our own hand sanitiser, but also a pack of wipes to clean the rim of cups, handles, forks etc. Rarely see anyone else taking similar precautions, apart from one couple who used their hand sanitiser and a tissue to do the same.
Not sure I am supposed to tell you this, but here goes.
At yesterdays SAGE meeting [ higher up than the ones I go to, but I get the summaries ], they recommended immediate switching to Plan B, expecting up to 2000 hospital admissions per day.

We've already got Plan B here. What's the problem? Just hoping they don't put a limit on private Xmas gatherings again as that will make a lot of people very unhappy.

"they say the peak of the wave is "highly likely to be higher" than
1,000-2,000 Omicron hospital admissions per day without new rules to
slow the spread of rising infections.
There
are currently around 680 people admitted to hospital each day with the
Delta variant in England (latest seven-day average). At the peak of the
last winter wave of coronavirus hospitals in England were admitting
3,811 people a day infected with the virus."
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
South African medical authorities seem to be reporting the opposite, majority are very mild cases, no big upturn in hospital admissions and nobody's died yet.
Wonder who leaked that then, wasn't me. Not supposed to be in the public domain.
Sorry I didn't word my post well, I meant 2000 Omicron admissions. There would of course still be Delta admissions too, although these will go down as Omicron becomes the dominant strain.

All very depressing but not surprising
