The only thing to do with the unvaccinated is to refuse them admission to homes and family events. That should concentrate a few minds, especially when we expect all the bars, clubs and discos will be closed after Xmas or only accessible with a pass.

Interesting, but in my experience the young were very good and it was the old people who didn't social distance or wear masks [ except round their necks ]
I thought the young got a very un fair press early on in the pandemic.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Round here as far as I can see it's been the young-ish (20-sometnings to 40-somethings) that seem to have been worst at mask-wearing. Middle-aged and older seem to have been better.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
The young people I know (generally age 20 to 35) have been very reluctant to give up their socialising. However, they are much better (than their elders) at doing regular lateral flow tests (and isolating if necessary), wearing masks properly, respecting social distancing at family events and every last one of them has accepted their vaccination(s) as soon as they possibly could.
They all work hard and want to play hard - but they try to do it in a responsible way. My nephew lives close to White Hart Lane in London. He and his fiancee are double jabbed but the official figure for 1st vaccinations in his area is only about 55%. Very worrying.

@punkdoc in our area it was very obvious that a lot of young people were not on board. I have been doing Covid public health support since day one and have been having conversations with various local communities throughout. The youth attitude was partly why London authorites were panicking over the past few weeks; the vaccination levels are so low.
I talk to despairing neighbours whose children point blank refuse to avoid parties or get vaccinations because "Big Pharma". One very religious lady took any proposed health measures as a direct challenge to the power of God, as he is in charge and would look after her. She now had Covid quite badly. Some Caribbean neighbours think that Covid is a white thing and nobody else needs to be concerned. The whole "fertility damage" myth seems to be quite rampant on the estate next to us. My next door neighbour has a long history as a conspiracy theorist and is convinced Covid is a govt plot to remove civil liberties. He threw large parties through the first lockdown to prove a point, as did many households on the street - to "stick it to The Man".
I agree with @punkdoc I live in a suburban area near Birmingham and we have lots of college students on the bus, all in masks, lots of elderly people wearing masks but under the nose! This seems very very common around here. Another favourite is hanging off one ear so phone calls can be made although that tends to be younger/ middle aged people.
Young people have missed out on so much during this pandemic and will be paying for it for the rest of their lives so maybe we should remember that before we criticise.
I agree with @punkdoc too. I think it may simply be a 'postcode' situation though. Younger people, certainly through last year, were far more aware IMO, and were clearly getting the message about distancing, while older people didn't distance, and it's been even more noticeable since the vaccines came through. Since mask wearing, it hasn't changed much, and my younger daughter gets older people coming in on a daily basis doing the 'oh I forgot my mask', despite it being mandatory up here throughout. The 'chin mask' is also prevalent. However, I have noticed younger people being more careless too in the last few months. I've often thought it could be down to the difficulty of regulation being different while in school, and then they have to change their behaviour as soon as they come out. It still comes down to parenting - making sure they're aware of the risks. Perhaps the increase in youngsters being admitted to hospital will get the message home. They may well have missed a lot - but they'll miss even more if they aren't alive to enjoy a future at all.

Are a lot of youngsters ending up in hospital? If Omicron is mild, asymptomatic in many cases, and whips round the lot of partying youngsters, we may yet get to herd immunity. I agree anyone coming into contact with elderly/immunocompromised should be jabbed, whether in hospital/nursing home or even family get togethers for xmas. Before any further lockdowns, shouldn't we be looking at how many admitted to hospital needing oxygen/how many need respirators? I believe the private hospitals were on standby last year but never used. Maybe we could send all unvaccinated nurses to these hospitals, and all covid cases, and let the NHS hospitals get on with normal services? I do not believe we should be locking down now to protect those who won't be vaccinated. Why should those who have followed all the rules, been triple jabbed, wear masks etc be penalised to protect those who won't follow it, whether they believe that Bill Gates is injecting microchips or not, and controlling them with 5G masts. A 5G mast in Derby was set on fire the other day, caused chaos next to the main shopping parks as the main roads were closed. I am fed up with half witted conspiracy theorists.

isn't that the catch-22 that the scientific advisers have? If you wait to get all the data you need - and you find it's bad news, then you're vastly toooooooo late to do anything about it. They're having to work off scant data early in Omicron's progression here, to try to become 'seers' and predict the future. Unenviable.

Last nights news, Lambeth, BBC find two very sweet little white girls to interview.
It’s a predominately black area, BBC don't mention that either.
