@Fire yes it is for some people and I can see that will massively increase. I think pharmacy staff will be spending a lot more time on the phone in the coming weeks. I do feel very sorry for people who don’t have a support network I think it will be difficult for them and hope they can get some sort of help from the government. Many older people rely on local lunch clubs in the areas near me, without those will they eat properly? I will be checking up regularly on my neighbours let’s hope if we all do the same tragedies can be averted.
@debs64 re the giving stuff by side entrance, can you pin a notice to the door, "knock on door then stand back", you open door, put it in a tray on the floor, move back, then they pick it up. No physical contact. I have worked at some places set up like a post office used to be , with a hatch that stuff gets passed through. That was mainly to protect staff from certain violent customers on daily pick ups, but it would work for infected people as well.
@debs64 I think it will be particularly hard for those without good internet access. Lots of older people in my area don't have computer or smart phones and they are very hard to reach - and so more vulnerable. News and info is so important to managing one's life at the moment and lots of people are just not seeing it, or are weeks out of date. They have a great shock when they go to the shops or try and make a doctor's appointment. Things are moving so quickly. There will be terrible stories coming out of all this, no doubt.
Lots of schemes being set up round here too to support those that don’t have a local support network. It’s that sort of behaviour which lifts my spirits @Fire .....although sadly the idiots fighting over bog roll will grab the headlines.🧻🧻🧻
@pansyface it is probably worthwhile investigating whether you have an active “Nextdoor” community round your way now - then you can tap into it if you need it in the future. It’s simple to use (probably simpler than the GW forum 😉)......
Don’t be put off by the American spelling, it’s been widely used over here for at least the last couple of years. (In our neighbourhood mostly to reunite escaped pets with their owners ......an inordinate amount seem to go missing on a regular basis in the wilds of Surrey 😦)
When people recover from the virus and have the antibodies, surely they will be able to assist in delivery/assisting those still afflicted. It is good to hear that there are groups forming to deliver to people unable to commute.
They're announcing again on the news [radio] about the selfish, inconsiderate w****rs panic buying. Ok - they didn't use those words, but hey - if it walks like a duck.......
'There's plenty for everyone if people are sensible', is the gist. Why is this even a problem? Supermarkets should be rationing stuff and not allowing this fe**in' nonsense. These people are scum. Worse than scum.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
