  • In my experience the majority of establishments such as retail outlets, pubs, restaurants, cafes, hairdressers etc etc more often than not require you to wear a "face covering" as opposed to a "mask" - there is a big difference and I would suggest an even larger spread of efficacy.

I will continue to wear a mask where necessary, until this dreadful pandemic is over , and I don’t think   it will be soon .I have been Asthmatic since I was a year old.I would rather struggle for a while and pull my mask down to get some more air into my lungs occasionally than contract COVID by never wearing a mask .I find breathing a struggle when I am out and about .Also I am exempt from wearing a mask .I will continue ,one of the reasons has been mentioned before on this thread ,other people not wearing a mask or not wearing them properly.

Hubby doesn't mind wearing a mask so he does all the supermarket shopping.  I shop for everything else on line as I hate wearing a mask.  We don't need them at the garden centre.  I don't use public transport.  Our GP still isn't seeing any patients so I only have on-line/telephone appointments.  The only place I have to wear a mask is when I collect my prescription or go to a hospital appointment and I am in and out as quickly as possible.

Our GP practice has online and/or phone consultations and then if a face to face appointment is appropriate it happens within the next few days. My OH has had two face to face appointments in the past 9 months … not for anything major, but stuff that couldn’t be properly diagnosed or assessed over the phone or online … it needed hands on prodding and palpating … and that’s what he got … and in one instance immediate referral to an appropriate therapist who phoned later that day to offer an appointment for two days time.
It’s a busy inner city practice with a lot of patients who have a wide range of conditions … if it can happen here I don’t know why it’s not happening in other practices.

It doesn’t happen in country areas,  I don’t know why,  maybe care workers, doctors and nurses don’t want to live in these areas.
When I said I’d pay any amount of money for help, I was told you can offer what you like, there no one to do it.

Not all GP practices are made equal. In fact I fear your experience may be the exception rather than the rule.

I agree that not all GP practices are getting it as right as ours is … what I was asking was ‘why?’

    ANYONE SENSIBLE will:

WEAR A MASK  [ if not exempt ]
    WASH HANDS FREQUENTLY
KEEP THEIR DISTANCE, AVOID CROWDED SPACES
    GET VACCINATED

However it is time to try and resume a more normal life, within those constraints, as much as possible.

Many people work more than 8 hour shifts so even if you knock off an hour for lunch and other breaks it’s still a long time. Not very nice for people who have already worked all through the pandemic.
Pretty much nobody working in the NHS has an issue continuing to wear masks, especially not doctors nurses and other professionals.  I suppose we were used to wearing PPE well before this!!
