I doubt there will be much enforcement @Blue Onion. We are a very much a ‘Would you mind awfully’  type of country if the last one was anything to go by.
Fortunately  most people will abide by it.  At least that will slow the rate down for the time being thus easing the hospital beds and freeing up some wards for general operations.

I hope the shielding will make it easier for vulnerable people to have their prescriptions delivered.
  • I wish the government would do something about those whose employment situation means they're falling through the crack ... my son has worked freelance as a technician  in the music industry for years ... despite being properly registered, paying tax etc he is entitled to no government help or 'furlough' etc, and because he managed to find himself the grand tota of three days' work at £100 per day since February he is not eligible for the charitable help set up by the music industry either ... he is selling off his equipment to live on.  Desperate doesn't even come close ...

Yes, OH could be at work as his shop is on the GC site, but while the R number is up he doesn't want to risk bring the virus home with him and giving it to me, and TBH the GC seems a bit unsafe, as it is heaving with customers at the moment because everyone's buying their Christmas decorations etc.  It seems a little unfair on other shops selling that sort of stuff because they've been forced to close  :(

At least England is trying to do something.  America has just given up in trying to control the spread.  In Utah our numbers are averaging in the 2,000s, but with a positivity test rate of 15-29% in the past week!  Meaning a lot of people aren't getting tested - mainly for political reasons.  Our hospitalization record numbers are being broken daily, 6-10 deaths reported daily.. and no one is doing anything!  We still are having indoor community events (masks optional), very little mask wearing at the shops (I estimate about 40% masked from a trip to the grocery store two weeks ago), and still lots of large gatherings this past weekend for Halloween.  I fear we are too far gone to control the spread.. and in our extremely Republican community, no one would comply.

@Dovefromabove. I feel for your son and others in that situation. I expect the gov't could find the money for people easy enough, if they would make the effort.  In the US I suggest we cut our military spending in half and start sending everyone checks.  Pretty soon we won't have a country worth defending, if something isn't done.
