I appreciate people trying to uphold their belief system, as it is important to them, but I wonder what other medicines, anaesthetics, and vaccines they have taken without knowing the constituent parts. This is an emergency situation. Many faiths allow medicines in life-saving circumstances, which would otherwise be deemed not suitable (animal products in medicines etc) but will a vaccine be seen as essential or life-saving?? I hope faith leaders can find a way of reassuring their communities.
Anyone who works for the NHS, without a valid reason for refusing the vaccine, should imo be sacked. They are putting other peoples lives at risk, including their colleagues. There has been far too much pussy footing around. I am grateful I am no longer working on ICU, but if I was I think I would refuse to work with someone who refused the vaccine.
The Oxford vaccine does contain ethanol, but so do literally thousands of commonly used drugs.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
@pansyface , @Lyn , @punkdoc .... couldn't agree more. Even those members of my family that are at the "most" religious end of the family spectrum do not believe that avoiding alcohol or other forbidden products applies in a medical context, especially if there is no effective alternative. I'm not sure whether that is at least partly because we have a lot of doctors in the extended family. Hand sanitiser I think is a bit different as it's not being ingested, although tbh the giant whiff of vapour I inhale when I use it makes me think I probably get more ethanol fumes from that than any vaccination. Never occurred to me not to sanitise on that basis. Preservation of life ( your own and others') over-rides most other rules I think in most major religions. I hope I have not offended anyone by posting this, my intention is not to deride anyone's belief system.

I've been told a student nurse has been removed from her course after being filmed attending a 'covid is fake' type demonstration.
I don't understand why anyone would refuse the vaccine except on other medical grounds. That said, some of the pictures of queues at mass vaccination sites make me a bit twitchy, some look like an ideal way of spreading the virus. Maybe I'm just being paranoid!
