It may be the message you are trying to convey, but the pushing of masks by the government is way too optimistic. They make a very small difference in terms of you passing the virus on, but only for a short period of time, and only if worn correctly. Once a mask becomes wet, it is useless.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
My concern is that now we wear visors at work, which are very uncomfortable, many people get very close to us. I honestly don’t care for my own safety but I worry that people are using masks improperly and putting too much faith in them. Basically it seems to be do what you want and wear a mask, people who are genuinely vulnerable are not being supported and I think once shielding is over there will be some frightened people around.
I think that since the vast majority of people now take no notice of any guidelines all you can really do is to protect yourself. So wear a mask, wash hands, social distance etc for your own benefit. If someone gets too close move away, avoid shops that are crowded, don't go to pubs, beaches unless you want to take the risk. You cannot in the end tell others what to do if they refuse to listen to sense, whatever the outcome for them is entirely in their hands, nothing you can do about it. So look after you and yours and hope that is enough.

All supermarkets have said they want people to wear masks when going into the store. As have other shops.
Are they? I haven't had any of those emails, there are no signs at the supermarkets, the staff aren't wearing face masks, and there's no mention of this request on their websites?

And be kind, and give people the benefit of the doubt, and don't assume the worst of other people.
Good point mr penguin!! Do it for yourself and your family and friends.ive been making face coverings for my mums friends and I can tell you they feel better protected with one on than without.it gives them confidence to get out and about which they have all struggled with.they wash their hands and are very careful to social distance.theres too many people terrified about even going outside of their house .
We've had masks for weeks now. I've made ours but there have also been distributions and all supermarkets and pharmacies sell disposable ones at cost price. In this part of France all supermarket staff wear masks and we customers are requested to wear one - posters at the entrances and announcements every 10 minutes or so about masks and distancing. All staff in DIY shops, GCs, pharmacies, post offices et wear a mask. The DIY and GC I use most won't let you n without one.
We also get info about how to put it on and take it off, not wear the same one for too long, how to clean it, touching surfaces, washing hands etc. We know the mask is about protecting others. We are reminded all the time in the press, on the radio, presumably on TV, in communiqués from the local mairie so that leaders of associations can pass on info to their members, as I have been doing for our patchwork club.
Lockdown happened a week ahead of the UK. Businesses and shops have been shut down as in the UK. Jobs have been furloughed as in the UK, transport and travel have been restricted longer. Group gatherings are limited to 10 people outside. On the other hand, social distancing is 1m, not 2m.
There are controls at seaside resorts and the most popular resort beaches to make sure public footpaths, strands and promenades have one way pedestrian traffic. Lockdown in pub, cafés, swimming pools and so on is easing progressively according to regional progress on infections and deaths.
The populations are similar but there are now half as many new cases of Covid per day in France compared to the UK. 21 deaths today compared with 149 in the UK and overall, 13,000 fewer deaths so far.
Maybe the masks are not such a waste of time after all.

My son lives in South Korea. At the start of the pandemic he was very dubious about masks but now he's totally converted and thinks that the wearing of masks has made a massive difference in Korea. I can't understand why we're so resistant in the UK.
