Been shopping. Then local hunt gave me a huge haunch of venison the other day. I'm not that keen on it but "waste not, want not," I've invited 8 guests to Sunday lunch after church, including the priest and his wife. They all know it will be venison. I bought lots of veg today in Le Grand Frais.
OH treated us to lunch at the Wok place. As much as you can eat, and 2 glasses of wine each for 30€ for two. I had battered chicken with sweet and sour sauce, sweet chilli prawns with sweet peppers, caramel pork and a plate of salad then profiteroles with chocolate sauce and litchis. Can you tell I have a sweet tooth? Cedric always has Sushi to start.

Just read that there are 78 British people quarantined on the cruise liner off Japan and largely confined to their cabins. They are apparently only getting sandwiches and toasties to eat as well. It would drive me mad to be cooped up in one room.
It would drive me mad to be cooped up on a ship and be at the mercy of a pre-planned itinerary ... that’s why I don’t go on cruises.Â
I think we’re getting past the stage where globetrotting is no longer the almost guaranteed armchair ride to look at scenery ... it seems that foreign travel is returning to being a bit more of an ‘adventure’.Â

I never wanted to go on a cruise either, for those very reasons. But I have a friend who loves them.
Did an hour's gardening this afternoon, general tidying and cutting down. Lovely day.
@Lizzie27 , I was going to slow roast it for several hours wrapped in streaky bacon and foil, sitting on chopped onions and sprinkled with fresh sage and rosemary. I looked up several recipes, very contradictory. I don't want it pink and I'll be at church while it's in the oven, so I'll give it a start early in a very hot oven then wrap it up and leave it in a warm oven.

I love venison casseroled, but I don't think I've ever had it roasted... nice gift, @Busy-Lizzie. Hope your guests appreciate it.
We're at the stage with the house where we have to pack up the books, DVDs etc again so the furniture can be shifted for the electrician and central heating engineer. I doubt if I'll be able to find everything for quite a while after all this is finished... but we escaped for a walk this afternoon, spending 20 mins sitting by the lake listening to little splashing, quacking, rustling noises - a very good way to unwind. Â
A gardening friend sent me this photo. He had to cut down a Musa for a client (don't know why) and was fascinated by the pattern revealed in the stem. It makes it clear to those who think it's a tree, that it definitely isn't. A work of art, I think... Â
