@Lizzie27-if you've ever watched some people in public loos, you know how few seem to know that a "twinkle of the fingers" under a bit of running water is not the same as "washing one's hands".  Perhaps the worries of the Virus may cause people to take more care.  (I live in hope).

Wash your hands for the amount of time it takes to sing Happy Birthday to You twice. I heard that advice this week; seems sound.

Being a germ-phobe, I sometimes conclude that NOT using public hand washing facilities is probably better than touching all the germy taps 🤢. I have an excellent technique of using a tissue to open the doors, use flush etc and then just alcohol gel my hands if the taps are those ones you need to touch.
For the COVID, and other bugs, though - I agree that proper hand washing is key and disposable paper towels to dry are best if ‘out’. Anyone with false nails will be a petri-dish for germs, so go natural folks.

Just don't sing it out loud.  It could get you locked up faster than saying "I've got coronavirus" :D

Another suggestion I heard is the first verse of the God Save the Queen.

I think what is more of a concern is the length of time that flu viruses can survive on surfaces - long enough to travel on imports despatched by plane?
