How old is the battery and how long since it was last charged? If it has been a while the voltage in the battery may have dropped too far and it probably won't charge. You could just try leaving it in the charger overnight to see if it picks up any charge.

    thanks guys.
The camera should be charging whilst it's connected to the laptop , which it is fairly regularly.
I took a couple of photos yesterday not problem, then when I went to import them it just displayed " connecting to USB" but nothing happened. I unplugged it from laptop and plugged back in again and it said " connect camera to laptop" . I removed the battery and put it back in , but absolutely nothing now.Ā
I left it plugged in for 2 hours and it's not even showing a "charging" light.

I've just spoken to a guy at  shop in Barnstaple, "battery life is about 3-5 years " it's 5 years old, but they can check if it's taking charge at the shop, and the camera, new one about £25. usb lead I can get online for about £15, so not the end of the world if I have to replace both.

Heard about St. Boris's Xmas holiday in the Carribean - whilst the biggest crisis seems to be who actually paid for it, I'm wondering how on earth this "man of the people" ( or anyone else come to that ) can actually spend 15K on a holiday ?
maybe he took all of hisĀ  ( uncountable ) children with him?

15k to Boris is like 1.5k to many others.Ā  Not excessive spending in his world.Ā  About a year ago I looked at a multi-centre holiday in the USA.Ā  Decided against it when it came out at about 10k.Ā  Very easy to start hitting high numbers without looking too hard.

25 years ago I worked for a couple who spend £25,000 on a 2 week stay at a chalet in Courchoevel. That was just a accommodation with staff,  no flight or ski passes etc included.
I reckon you could spend £15,000 just on flights if you flew business class.
