I think it's ... erm.... "odd" ( can't think of a better word, sorry ) that  some folk don't trust their cameras ,but trust every "update" without question.

I trust Microsoft updates ... they come from Microsoft ... I trusted them enough to buy the system, why would I not trust them to update and improve the way it works and repair possible security glitches?  ...The IT engineers at my last place of work (social services) insisted on all Microsoft updates being installed ... it was found that in the past some workers had disabled updates and clients' confidential data had been compromised ... there was  quite a bit of a hooha about it at work ... the responsibility for ensuring updates were installed was taken over by the IT department.

However, the camera is a different matter ... who is accessing it depends on which sites you are accessing ... could be anyone at the other end ............ !!!

.... and with 'zoom' they could see any paperwork on that dresser, including envelopes with your address on, bank statements with account details etc and other confidential stuff ... plus don't you and your Lovely Hub often leave your keys on that dresser?  So a 'watcher' will know who you are, where you are, and where your house and car keys are likely to be .... and apart from any online misbehaviour they may get up to,  would you hear them if they snuck in while you were in one of the polytunnels?

Maybe you’re right ... have you ever Skyped and seen how much of someone’s home is visible?  I was surprised when I did.

I remember seeing almost half a family sitting room when my son and his then wife Skyped her babushka ... she pointed out various pieces of furniture and photographs etc around the room behind her grandmother.

At least with Skype you know who you’re looking at and who’s looking at you.
I always update, they are from Apple rather that than a break in from a very clever Romanian.
Apple work on keeping one step ahead of hackers who build up a profile of you can take a passport photo maybe?
People are getting hacked constantly, it pays to be vigilant.

It's not the camera as much as the microphone you should worry about (and much harder to isolate). But people go and buy extra microphones to make it easier for the hackers. Alexa, when am I going to be out of the house for a couple of hours?
