  • I get very curmudgeonly about people who hang their cigarettes outside their car windows, if they don't want the smoke in their car why do they light up!  :s

It amazes me that they're more bothered about the smoke in their car than the smoke in their lungs.

This happens when the car's not theirs.  I once knew a smoker whose only vehicle was his work van.  When he wanted to make a better impression, he was allowed to borrow his brother's mercedes on condition he didn't smoke in it.

A lot of company cars are leased and smoking in them is forbidden or they have to pay a hefty penalty when the car is returned.

Quite right too we once rejected a second hand car because despite their attempts to clean it we could still smell stale cigarettes in it.

Once upon a time many years ago we (myself and the now ex) bought a brand new car!!!  On the first day the now ex took his father out for a ride in it.  His father had a penchant for those horrid little Hamlet cigars ......... curmudgeonly?!?!?!?! I should say I was FLIPPIN' CURMUDGEONLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No-one gets to smoke in my house or my car and I don't like the smell on their clothes so I avoid sitting next to smokers anywhere else.

Before Xmas I went to a fancy garden centre in Olonne (cos I've been given a voucher) to see if there were any Xmas decs or lights I fancied.   All rejected cos made in China.

Went back today to buy solar lights in the sale.  9 out of 10 made in China.  Ended up with one uplighter for our walnut tree - made in France - and 3 small lights in cages that hang - made in UK.  Prices comparable so how hard can it be to design and make them here - jobs and revenue - and not import from China?

Prices may have been comparable but the profit margins wouldn't be.  Profit will generally be far higher on goods from China and the Far East because of the huge wage difference.  Transport costs are pennies (cents) per unit when transported by container ship.

Still rather have those jobs here than there.

I was having a bad day. The weather is cold and murky, someone has scuffed my car and driven off, I had to look at the world's most plastic garden which managed to make winter seen even more dead with its ever blooming flowers, snooker table green grass and its complete lack of soul.  Then I had to stop in a crappy industrial estate to pick up some stuff for work and heard a dipper singing its heart out from the nearby river. It was stood on a rock in the middle of the water using the echo of the bridge to amplify the sound over the traffic noise. I stood and watched for a while wondering if anyone else even noticed. Then it flew off and all I could hear was a guy clearing his nose while slinging tyres into a heap out the back of ATS. :|
