I have been using a very old, small laptop to store and show photos for patchwork group.  Joy of joys?  It has a CD reader, Windows 8 and an old version of i-Tunes so I should be able to read in my CDs.  Last time I tried with my real laptop it refused and said I had to access and pay i-Tunes for new music.   Seriously grump making.

I don’t really know anything about downloading music, always bought records, put them on cassettes for the car, then cd’s I which I copied onto blanks in case anything happened to them in the car, couldn’t imagine having 20000 songs and deciding that I want Meat Loaf playing in the car. How do find anything amongst that lot?

No idea.  I used i-Tunes for playlists for dance practices - 30 days' worth of Latin, Ballroom, Salsa etc so being able to select playlists by category is essential.  Anyone care to recommend an MP3 player?  And what's the difference between one of those and an i-Pod?

The main difference between generic MP3 players and anything with the Apple brand is that they tend to be about half the price of the Apple version.

I’d like to know that too, I have no idea about either.

It is actually very easy to select music alphabetically on an MP3 player.
I have also put together various lists of tracks, to suit different moods [ like a mix tape ].

That's Apple for you. They once installed an update which deleted everything from your library which hadn't been bought on iTunes. After legal action, they withdrew it.
Thieving sods. All Apple updates are for their benefit and not for the customers' IMHO.

I do now block all Apple updates and will not be buying an i-Pod.  Have you seen the price?  Ludicrous.  All I want is to play my music, legally bought and backed up to PC or USB stick.

I don’t think an iPad is any dearer than a laptop, and they’re more secure without paying for too security which you need these days, my grandson has just bought himself a laptop cost £1000, 00 +

Ipods tend to be over spec'd too.  All I want is a device I can use to have music on the move.  I don't want or need a built in camera, wifi etc, and certainly won't pay extra for the privilege.
