Hi all No change in the grim weather here. Todays good news, a builder who promised to come and look at one of our valley gutters, turned up, and was on time, and wants the job. Had to sack the last lot, never turned up, and we are now growing fungi in the bathroom.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Sad about Gary Rhodes, not very old. My first OH died on the 24th November aged 53, one sad thing was unhappy Christmasses for some years afterwards.
An estate agent came this morning. He's English, employed by one of the local agencies here who have this house on the market. He looked around, said the price is right but the agency aren't publicising it very well and their photos are poor. He said he's going to rewrite the brochure and update the website. Their brochure was inaccurate with measurements, number of bathrooms etc. This agency never gave me a brochure, despite my requests. He said he has a very interested client, English, who was waiting for an offer on her house before coming to look, her house sale is now going through. Fingers crossed but not expecting anything.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Fungi in bathroom not good, @punkdoc. Our builders - contrary to the tales one hears about Irish workmen - turned up a day early, on Tuesday, and have already demolished our garage in preparation for building the extension. Â
We are sending more cards than usual this year, and putting them in the post early (this weekend, when we'll be in England) so friends know our new address, giving them time to decide whether to send an email message instead of an expensive card We're spending next weekend in York, arriving at breakfast time on Saturday, which is our grandson's second birthday. Should be fun! Sunday is our once-monthly choir rehearsal so it fits in well. We discovered we can get on a bus in Galway at 2pm on Friday and get to Leeds at 5.30 the following morning - bus drives on to the ferry in Dublin and then drives from Holyhead to Leeds. Cost is comparable with going by air, and much more environmentally friendly... Â
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Woke up with a very stiff neck this morning so must have slept in an awkward position. I enjoyed the Rick Stein programme but don't know the area. There is so little on TV these days that I want to watch, so programmes like that are a pleasant way to while away an hour or so. Not interested in the cooking much! Â @Pat EÂ I've just seen that a teenage has been charged with arson over the bush fires Pat. Presumably they're keeping him in custody otherwise I expect he'd be lynched if the locals could get hold of him. @Liriodendron, that sounds a long journey but as you say more enviro friendly. @Busy-Lizzie, keeping fingers crossed for you. @punkdoc, glad you've got some good news -how's the tongue doing? That must be so, so painful.
Yes Lizzie, I think you’re right. The little b...gger was a young fire fighter trainee. Makes you wonder why he wanted to be a trainee, doesn’t it! He must have had an urge to see fires anyway. Grrr.Â
@Pat E there is a history of firefighters and pyromaniacs being one and the same.  Mad - literally. I hope he has to see close-up the damage he's caused and do community service for life.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Slept like a log last night.
More rain here too. Very bored with it. I just wish @Pat E would run a pipe from our place to hers.Â

Like @O@Obelixx I was rather disappointed by Rick Stein's Périgord programme, apart from the fact that I missed some of it because of interference from the heavy rain. He left out so much, cookery and scenery. He showed quite a bit of Périgueux market. I usually avoid it, expensive, difficult to park on market days and it's the day the children have the afternoon off school so frantic mothers are driving them round to piano lessons, tennis club etc. There is a really good greengrocer on the edge of town with a car park that I go to.

My back would not cope with such a long journey in a bus @Liriodendron but I hope the journey goes well for you.
A very busy night, meteorologically speaking, so another bad night's sleep. Lots of calls to fire brigade for flooding and wind damage in the Vendée and along the Atlantic coast but no probs for me this morning taking Bonzo to La Roche-s-Y for a session with the osteopath. He's doing very well after his op but has suddenly developed lots of tension in that leg and his nervous nature means his stomach gets tied in knots and he's also managed to block a couple of vertebrae. All sorted now but no walkies for a week now and then start again slowly.Â
