Morning Chive. Wedding is next Saturday but we are all going up on Friday. Yes, that comment was a hoot. She knew he came from 'another country' so assumed he would speak 'another language'. Children say the funniest things. I hope that your Mum is fine today. Enjoy work! I know that you do.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Pansy, there is a lead mine not too far from here at Wanlockhead, the highest village in Scotland. The tour of the mine is excellent as are the period cottages. Nothing worse than a bumbling tour guide for your visitor. Hope you have a better time today.
LB, have you got your glad rags sorted for the wedding?
Half expecting the guys to be along the back of the house starting their topographical survey today. Hope they keep their feet off the plants.
Good morning all, Hope all are well and getting over aches and pains. I love children' s comments, definitely 'out of the mouths of babes and sucklings'. I recently went on holiday with my 6 year great niece and family. My two dogs came too. Ave and her sister Etta 'adopted' a dog each for the week. Ave said that they were going to get a puppy next year but they were going to get a well trained one. I explained that all puppies are naughty and you have to train them. She replied, ' Why didn't you train Kizzy then?' I tought that was brilliant.
LB Lily will have missed you and shell be happy for her towel dry after her outing. Chive enjoy your day with mum I hope she's feeling a little better. Hazel it's good the tub chair has arrived and homely things are coming together you've both certainly put in a lot of work. Ante I hope you have a lot of people for your potatoes certainly a sterling job (meaning well done). Having a cup of tea and catching up.
Had a great holiday and now I have about 10 loads for Lily's TV.... Looks like we've had no rain while we were away. Good thing is that in nearly 3 weeks the grass hasn't grown at all. Bad news is that the front beech hedge is brown. Really hoping that's just a premature autumn due to the drought and not more serious. That hedge is 25 years old and would take a lot of replacing.
LB - glad you had a good catch up with the rellies. Bet you're all looking forward to the big day. I assume they've actually booked everything? - you did say they were poor organisers!
Pansy - tour guides like that are really bad news, especially if they're paid but even if they're volunteers. A poor performance will deter people from returning to the property / venue. Bad news all round.
SM run now - loads to do - catch up with the rest of you later.

Afties all. Joyce, nephew didn't want a dead posh do and said we can all go casual or whatever we feel comfortable in - I am not sure how much that might have been discussed with his fiancée though! I am not wearing a dress or a skirt. I have a pair of black linen trousers and a cream top. I'll wear a jacket but not decided which one yet - knowing the Lake District it could be a waterproof. My brother brought me a hand painted scarf with my very favourite Australian magpies on it and I will definitely be wearing that.

Pottie, I hope that you took the rebuke in good part!
Lants was that mine in Beamish by any chance? Love that museum. I wasn't too keen on going down in the mine cage though. I have great respect for miners.
M-U I am AWACBE - once I twigged it didn't mean 'awake working and cutting back everything! I do hope your back is behaving itself.
Welcome home T'Bird. Fingers crossed that your beech hedge is ok under all that brownery. Remember my poor Katsura tree did that but it has been fine this year. Hope you've got space on the string thing in the garden!

Good you are home safely TBird . If your hedge is that old, I think it should be ok. Mine is about fifty years old and has looked dried out several times ,it always comes back . Lovely scarf LB .I love scarves . They can make an outfit .
That's a very pretty scarf LB - a good scarf can really make an outfit.
I have loads. Mainly because, unlike other items of clothing, they always fit and they are very forgiving of overindulgence in cakes, choclit, cheese and chips😉😁
