There was a programme on the other week where Giles Coran researched the secrets to long life, all in the USA, one couple swore by eating 1000 calories a day, for breakfast they had to imagine eating food, one group ate only meat, one group only vegetables and one guy only raw meat, take your pick.
Think it'd be only meat for me!
Though if prosciutto counts as raw meat I'll go for that too...
Arthur Smith said that he didn't want to live forever and couldn't stand optimistic people, he sited turning up for a wedding expecting it to turn into a family row and a fight and being pleased when it didn't, those that were optimistic and expected a lovely day just got what they imagined.
I worked with a vegan who had a minor wrist injury. It didn't heal for months.
Doesn't surprise me! I read about a couple who tried to raise their baby on a vegan diet, the child died unfortunately. Not sure how out of context it was though its pretty scary how far the 'vegan movement' has come.
Quite. A report on the Beeb news today says optimists live longer - cup half full types who see solutions rather than problems.
I think this is always a misconception with optimists. Optimists always think things will turn out ok and are half the reason why the world is going to pot because they don't consider the broader picture. If you want proper solutions you need to be a realist.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
You don't have to wear rose tinted specs to be an optimist. Most I know are very realistic but practical problem solvers. Pessimists can be very wearing.

I think we could be self-sufficient in a lot of the basics in the UK if we shifted our tastes - for pomelos and pineapples. We seem to grow so many apples, beans, potatoes, onions, greens and grains. But so hard to find UK apples sold in Sept and UK beans in August. Which is entirely nuts, for the global market to make things so. The market is flooded by cheaper beans from Kenya and apples from NZ. Fair enough perhaps in March, but not in late summer.
Hard to locally supply tea, coffee and spices like pepper, though. And hard to increase self sufficiency without govt wanting to rip out precious green reserves, as whey did in WWII. I imagine allotment requests would go through the roof, if we ever become pressed.
