@Obelixx Best of luck with Bonzo dog. Hardest part is keeping them from re injuring themselves. Took our lawn mower in to get his stitches redone, and mentioned I thought it was the ball that triggered them to pop out. Mentioned we'd have to hide them all until he is healed up. She looked at me funny and said just don't play ball with him. Clever boy knows how to throw it for himself
Thanks everyone. Trying to find a painkiller which works - I'm not used to taking anything stronger than paracetamol, but this pain is something else...
I'm taking anti-virals so hopefully it'll settle soon.
Some interesting stuff in your link, @Obelixx - thanks.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Thanks @HouseFinch. The main problem is that he's a very bouncy, lively boy who loves to run and does a lot of jumping. Fortunately, he can be distracted with cuddles but that's not possible all the waking day or we get nothing done.

How horrible for you @Liriodendron. It's a nasty thing. I remember my grandpa having it. Perhaps the stress of all your house move right enough. Hope you can find something to take the pain away.
I had chicken pox as a very mature adult. Not funny. It was like someone stabbing me in the face.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Bonzo dog again! This time it's his "air-conditioning". I've been hiding his antibiotics and anti-inflamatories in cat food as that guarantees he slurps it all up. One more day to go and the cumulative effect on his digestive process is ripe to say the least.

The nights are getting distinctly cold. Not much hope for a late crop of runner beans I imagine. I did see a hedgehog while walking the dog tonight though, the first I've seen around here in a long time. It looked to be a good size too which isn't surprising given the amount of bugs about. The dog jumped 3 feet in the air when the rock he sniffed moved. I don't think he's seen one before given the surprise on his face.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
