How do you trap an echidna Pat? Sounds a bit like that joke about how do you eat an elephant? He was very happy little chap that goldie. Nice to sit and watch him. Or her, of course. The little robin appeared too. He's getting a wee bit of orange on his tum now.
I'd had a very odd experience earlier on though. Felt something on my left hand, and it was a little wasp. As I watched, it felt quite tickly, and I thought - tickly wee feet he's got. Then it got a bit nippy, and I realised he was biting me. I often watch them harvesting wood on the fences, and I thought 'is that how rough my hands are?' I had to get him off though - it was really quite sore! There's a wee cut by my knuckle. Maybe he was a vampire wasp ...

I hope the wasp bite doesn't give you trouble, Fairygirl. Don't you have a self preservation instinct?
Grey and cool so far. Think I'll go and chuck all the annuals that I didn't have room for, or didn't get around to planting, on the compost heap. Then the HS won't need to water them. That's if we can go, bearing in mind the Ryanair strike on Thursday. Then I'll cut down the santolinas that look awful after flowering.
Garden club annual party this evening. Friends near Hautefort are hosting it, bring and share finger food.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Spending a lot of time working from home at the moment.......the whole office seems to be on holiday, and my motivation to do the extra bits has gone AWOL 😜. Also saves me 3 hours travelling time.
Loved seeing the echidnas when we were in Australia Pat ......very cute snufflers 🦔. On a horticultural theme......did you know echidna is greek for hedgehog? Hence the names for hedgehog shaped flowers like echinops and echinacea (the cone on the inside of the flowers). Made me smile when I found that out 😀
@Pat E I thought you were talking about the bin lorry crews when you said about it being mating time 🙄 😂
I don't have any allergic reactions to them BL, so not an issue. I enjoy watching them, but this was something I hadn't seen before, so it was interesting. He kept following me though - I must have tasted good to him. Slightly worrying as they devour squashed snails very readily Shame about your plants, but you have to do what suits you really. Makes it easier for the housesitter too, as you say.

That's lovely @chicky. I think I knew the echidna/hedgehog thing, but not the horticultural link. Nice saving on the travel - must make a difference. Do you spend the financial savings on more tea/coffe/biscuits though?

Today's excitement involves a new compost bin which has just been delivered. Always fancied one of those posh slotted modular wooden ones so had a look at building some but it wasn't going to be much cheaper than just buying. Now I have to clear out the place where it is going which has a pile of brashings on it. I have enough material in informal heaps to fill them in one go.
I already have 5 daleks, 4 standard 1 large, which I have somehow accumulated over the years. They have all been taken over by slow worms though so I have not really harvested compost from them, just keep filling them over the years. Time to clear them out and re-house the slow worms in a nice new big warm bin before winter.
What? No season ticket? OH had a first class season ticket paid for by his employers - govt scheme to get people off the roads. Mind you, they weren't anything like as expensive as UK rail tickets.
It's sunny and not too hot so a bit more planting for me before lunch and then I need to go and get clean to buy a zip. Trust me to choose a fabric from my stash for which I don't already have the right length in the right colour.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning all.

@Fairygirl with current petrol prices that would be a lot of tea and biscuits 🤣. Think I am still quids in 👍🏻
