@davidcresswell1mNdKNOvV. The roots are ok, you can’t expect perennials to be in full leaf at this time of the year,  they need a good soak, roots teased out and potted up in the GH for a few weeks.
they look like that when they first arrive.  In fact, I think Parker’s say give them a good soak on arrival.

  • I've used j Parker over 20 years no problems with any plants really apart from one Sarah delta fushia I've ordered this one 3 times all others grew but not Sarah delta so I went to local garden centre small one they very good little company by use and brought yes you guessed it Sarah delta fushia plants but like j parkers one they also didn't grow so I give in on her but I'm still ordering from j parkers as for me best place for price and quality and I only buy plants not bulbs anymore as that side I've finished with I have tried other sites and garden centres but I always go back to j Parker they been aswomes you get what you pay for

I've had some bedding plants delivered today ready for potting on and I can't fault them. It's the 3rd year with them and I'll use them next year.

    .

If you read a bad review you can be pretty sure it is correct and true, i'm not so sure about favourable one, it has been know that people are paid to write favourable reviews.

I once was given £50 worth of HTA vouchers which were burning a hole in my pocket, we were passing Cadbury's GC, Congresbury and went in, the plants etc were terrible, shrubs and roses wilting for the lack of water so we left without spending anything.
I wrote a critical review, when I checked  some days later I found that immediately there were three replies contradicting mine and about how wonderful they were, I fired back about them being trolls and dishonest to boot, they didn't reply!

I later found out the reason, it was a changeover period  they had sold out to Blooms who sold to Blue Diamond, their plants are very good now if remarkably expensive!

Ps I have no idea why they would let their standards drop just because they were being taken over!

I did wonder about the gushing favourable reviews we've seen, but I (and others) just didn't believe the most recent 'unfavourable' one in this thread - the supposedly 'dead' plants just look like typical herbaceous perennials which are dormant and haven't yet come into growth - probably the best time to post them. So not that it's a 'malicious' review, but maybe not knowing what the plants should look like.

Where on earth do you get that idea?

Which? Has conducted interesting  research on fake reviews, how they are big business and how to spot them.

You could also say that bad reviews are from competitors who are worried.

Agreed, people sometimes leave malicious reviews on all sorts of establishments, because they’ve been annoyed by one thing (justified or not), and think they’ll spice up the complaint a bit to make it count.

I have used J Parker for bulbs for years, always with excellent quality stock. I have been let down by other seed merchants a few times. Marshalls once refused to refund with no good reason, so I don’t shop with them anymore. But I expect they’re no better or worse than the rest. It’s luck that J Parker’s haven’t ever blotted their copybook with me, and others have. They’re all huge organisations, and all huge organisations will make mistakes.
