As an aside (maybe it's just me) but did anyone notice in last night's Chelsea, how Joe Swift was being quite antagonistic toward Monty, as they closed the show? I know it's tongue in cheek and Monty handled it very well, but it irritated me
I was going to raise the same point, but I'm less inclined to accept that it was said 'tongue in cheek'. Joe Swift is consistent in one thing, he will always try to demean anybody who likes 'traditional' gardens, be that formal or cottage.
Just watched this episode now - goodness, there was absolutely no reason for Joe to be like that. I found it quite unpleasant and unnecessary and frankly I too thought it was personal between the two of them.
It definitely wasn’t time nor place for strong opinions or arguments.
Monty did handle it like a true gentleman he is though.
I have just watched a woman with strange eyebrows gushing about mixing dahlias with lupins and foxgloves. They will go on to November she says. Does she not realise that foxgloves are May, Lupins in June and then the dahlias start flowering? Chelsea have a lot of things flowering together that do not normally.
Fake eyebrows and plastic flowers,I'll warrant. Come November, she'll replace them with a plastic Christmas tree that looks really realistic , Can I claim the prize for the first mention of the festive season 2019!
I've been an RHS member for 30 years. Can I have a freebie for the Monday gala please?
Given that I am a long-standing member I am extremely irritated that I am not eligible to vote for the People's Favourite in the Show Garden category but can vote for the Artisan and Space to Grow gardens.
As for the rest - why all the repetition in this day of easy recording of TV progs? Given the Beeb likes to think it's a world class broadcaster it should aspire to excellence in its coverage of the world's best flower show. Chelsea happens once a year. It is the world's best show case for horticulture, plantsmanship and garden design.
They could fill a whole week of TV coverage including the growers, the plants, the designs, the technology, the people and their history, the judges, the RHS without repeating a single second and without vacuous celebs. Happy to have those who enjoy plants and gardens but seriously fed up with the ones who haven't a clue.

I've looked at one on iPlayer but, to be honest, it could have been any year. Same presenters sitting on a wall saying how exciting it all was. Lots of displays with worthy themes. I might look at the rest - sometime
On the evening programme, one of the presenters said "On trend" twice in the space of about 60 seconds. I personally couldn't give a manure what is 'on trend', I purchase and hopefully grow plants because I like them.
I know l commented on it further up the thread, but the sound quality was terrible again tonight. When Monty was talking to the guy from Pink Floyd and his wife, the noise of the crowd just drowned them out. I noticed they were wearing those clip on microphones, back in the day there used to be someone carrying a "furry animal on a stick" and monitoring the sound levels. Even my OH commented on it, and he was only half watching/listening.
I record all of it so I can FF the Generation Game style flower arranging slots or the desert garden bits and just concentrate on the features on garden designers and plant growers. Real stuff.
