What did I NOT like about Chelsea

In general I look forward to the tv coverage of Chelsea and invariably enjoy it. However certain phases sometimes jar with me, ON TREND being one. I heard it repeated three times in under two minutes. Not TRENDY or POPULAR but ON TREND. The other is when trendy (or would that be ON TRENDY) garden designers ponse up their design but saying "Oh to represent the Manchester Ship Canal we've included a 3ft x 3ft pond, or it's industrial past by including a chunk of rusty iron". It's a garden after all. Is it attractive for goodness sake? Is it well planted? Would I like that as my garden?

    The trouble is by the time your on trend garden is mature, on trend will have moved on to something completely different😉
    Best to set your own trend and wait for Chelsea to catch up with you.

    Ha ha 😂. It really wouldn't be a real Manc garden if they didn't shoehorn in references to cotton, the worker bee or graphene. 😉

    I think expecting it to be about gardening, is missing the point. It is a show, a spectacle, and just sometimes, beautiful gardens are the result. The great pavilion is the place for horticulture.

    repeating the same phrases endlessly is always annoying (see Curmudgeons' Corner). Politicians needing to 'step up to the plate', actors 'going on a journey', any property porn TV show with a house that 'ticks all the boxes'. 

    I imagine it's the problem with asking people - even ones used to speaking on camera - to talk without a script.

    Very true.
    It's speech designed to make the speaker sound like they know what they're talking about. Industry talk that makes it easier to speak in jargon.

    My personal bug bear is the massive overuse of 'robust', from politicians, to people in education. Argh!!!

    What I hate most of all is the background foreground music, which plays for no apparent reason, and which is totally inappropriate. Gardens are supposed to be relaxing, but what do we get? Drums, crashing cymbals and blaring brass!

    My bug bear is the words 'months'. Presenters bang on about the 'winter months' and 'summer months'. I end up yelling at the TV. Masterchef is addicted to the phrase 'as well'. Once you spot these oddities it's hard to be oblivious. But they are tiny irritants.
