Has been nice until a couple of hours ago when we had a really heavy shower , just as I was going to cut the grass . Always tomorrow
Being nosey I goggled Fete des Plantes at Chateau Orcher  , found it but big problem all in French ! Have a good 3 days and I’m sure it will be better in a Marque

Opened new greenhouse cover and joyfully fitted it over frame with help from O/H -It's too big!! Not to be defeated O/H has told me that he will build extension to greenhouse so that it does fit Joy and excitement! Just to see you through to next w/e as we are in UK straight after Fete des Plantes at Le Havre this w/e. Buying goodies and Vhristmas Stock before B--xt hits the fan. here is the Lunar Calender 11-20th Oct.
(No gardening on 10th after 2.20pm as Moon apogée)
Moon ascending in Aquarius so Flower Days 10/11th - Sow some Sweet Peas ready to prick out in March/April next year.
12//13/14th Oct -Full Moon 10.07pm Leaf Days. Sow Spinach/Lambs Lettuce and Winter Lettuce under cover if you are in a cold region or just in Potager if you have milder Winters. Sow Green Manures in empty areas to dig in in the Spring.
15/16th Oct - Moon ascending in Aries -so Fruit and Seed Days. Sow Broad Beans in mild areas. Gather other fruit and the balance of tomatoes before frosts hit.
17/18/19th Oct - Root Days -Under cover sow some more radishes and perhaps some last minute carrots. (let me know if these late sowings work for you -Mine never do so I wait until Spring -All tips welcome though!)

So now ready to go off to 3 Day Garden Fair tomorrow. Still wet here & windy here.

    Happy Gardening!

    Hi Everyone

Great to stop exhibiting and relax at end of season -Last 2 weeks have been truly awful weather wise with many exhibitors just going home. Still we have met some lovely people this Summer, bought too many goodies, and come home soggy, blown away and tired. Yet again greenhouse cover is off! High tides have attracted many visitors to our area and now we are ready to draw breath although already filled out forms to participate next Spring at some new venues.
Weather wise I'm afraid that November brings us more of the same although a rise in temperatures between the 9-17th. 21-23rd sees them dropping again and strong possibility of hard frosts and snow towards end of month. -This doesn't sound too cheerful does it?! - Anyway look out for Lunar Calender 1st November. Bought 2 lovely new Salvias at w/e in Brittany and now must pop out and plant tulips and remaining narcissi before heavens open again!

Hello , spent 4 days on the trot at allotment as weather has been good , everything that’s needs to be done before winter comes , is done , worn out but very pleased . Jobs left to do are what I call maintenance ie.stain  sheds , repair some posts etc
No need to think about Brexit until after the election!!! So still time to do any UK Christmas shopping 🛍
Your g/h roof seems to be an ongoing problem
Hope cats 🐈 are all well

Teach me to have a polytunnel!!! -Still a glass greenhouse would be a nightmare as surrounded by trees, and going by the wind today, branches all over garden so any glass greenhouse would have been destroyed!! Did not do Farmers Market this am as on the beach -Definately a 'no no' have you got enough rain now Obelxx? Starting to flood here this am as we are on the 'marais' (marshes) - So glad no Fairs this w/e and outdoor season finished. Have booked trip to UK mid Dec to stock up with goodies. Joy Bxt on 'hold' can buy more garden supplies like bean sticks and fleece with no Import Tax looming.Yesterday a Bank Holiday here so cleaned greenhouse and put spent terreau in pots on compost heap. Dahlias still in full flower so not bringing them in yet.
Anyway on a much brighter note here is the Lunar Calender 1-12th November.
Just a quick BioD note to bear in mind 25th November (St Catherine's Day) is the day when any woody shrubs/trees and indeed roses will be good to take cuttings from.
1-3rd Nov -(Up to 10.23am on 3rd) Fruit Days with Moon ascending in Sagitarius In mild areas sow round as opposed to wrinkled peas. I'm going to try some in pots in greenhouse, so if we get the snow predicted end Nov -Dec they will at least have a chance of getting away well. Mangetouts are also worth giving a go.
4-5th Nov - Moon ascending in Capricorn so Root Days. Sow some Carrots under cover. Rub off any sprouts from stored potatoes and double check condition of beetroot in clamps, as if humid and warmer than usual they could well start sprouting. BioD notes say make preperation from silica and 'plug'from centre of buried cowhorn -For those not able to do this, make large hole in centre of compost heap (from the top) and pop in 2 handfuls of Hoof & Horn or Bonemeal then re cover. This will help to activate and keep heap warm during the Winter months.
6/7th Nov - Flower Days with Moon ascending in Aquarius. Harvest Broccoli and Cauliflowers. In mild areas take flowers off hydrangeas and prune back to second bud. Moon apogée before 1.40pm on 7th so avoid major gardening jobs in preference 5hrs before and 5hrs afterwards. BioD notes say cut back budlea/roses and other flowering shrubs now while soil warm to encourage energy back into the stems and ensure good flowering earlier next season. I always thought one should wait until February when soil is 'warming up' -Doing this pruning now does however make sense so I shall try it.

8-11th Nov -Leaf Days Harvest some Lambs Lettuce and other Winter Salads. Start harvesting Kale/Cabbage/Celery and Fennel. Wait until after first frosts to harvest Brussel Sprouts remebering to take from the bottom of the stem first. Cut Tarragon down and cover with straw/bracken or dead leaves.
12th 1.34pm Full Moon Fruit Day again. Just in passing -Take your olives to the Mill today for pressing. -Not sure you can do this in UK!!! If you like scavenging, Go out and collect Medlars and Crab Apples and make Jelly today.

I have picked all the crab apples off the little tree in the porch as still pot from garden Fair the other week. Found I had 354g -So making a pot of Crab Apple Jelly for Xmas this afternnon, as driven indoors by pouring rain and gales.
Keep Dry Keep warm and Happy Gardening!  -Any Questions? -Please join the Thread -We want to hear from you.

We have rain @biofreak but not enough yet to fill our pond.   Planted 3 fruit trees on Thursday and sowed broad beans on the last fruit days but no show so far despite temps in double figures, even at night.  I've kept some spares to sow in the PT in Jan, just in case.

Our PT is 4m x 8m and well anchored down as well as being sheltered at its western end by trees on our boundary and cow byres behind those.   I have some pepper plants in there and some oca but the rest has been cleared and covered with cardboard.

Too wet yesterda, today and tomorrow to do anything outside which is fine as I have plenty to do indoors.   Patch and mosaic on Monday so no gardening then either.

I just cut back any long, whippy stems on roses to avoid wind rocking the roots in autumn and winter.  I leave the serious pruning til spring in case frosts damage the stems.  Then I have more material to work with when looking for outer facing buds to prune back to.

    Hi

Just waded through swamp of lawn to P/T -My one Aubergine staring at me mournfully!! Think I had better pick it and make a Moussaka tonight! -Yes, I normally cut back whippy stems on Roses now, but I think I might give this method a go,also it is SO warm 15c!!
Admire you doing Patchwork and Mosaic. I've never had the patience, which is probably why I like baking, because I can change the recipes all the time. Thinking I had the Market this am, Made super Marmelade Bread Pudding Yesterday and Treacle Cookies. O/H looking longingly at Tin -Told him he must go outside and fix P/T first!!!!

Just seen weather, supposed to be a bit calmer tomorrow, so huddling down indoors this afternoon.

    Happy Gardening.

I made a tropical fruit cake for my patchers today - banana, pineapple, passion fruit and carrots.   They loved it.  I'm doing a series of carrot cakes at the mo so we've had simple carrot cake, coconut carrot cake and this one.  They'll probably get chocolate carrot cake next or maybe Indian or maybe Nigella's Venetian version......
