Hi Everyone!!! Out of hospital today Genetically Modified and all well with the world.😊😊😊 I'm afraid that they took my Tablet away from me due to the risk of magnetic waves effecting my brain!! Anyway I am in hospital hotel here in Lille for another week then HOME!!!!!! Have missed my garden so much!! Anyway here is the Lunar Weather Report for November 5-8th Nov temperatures variable cold and wet with strong cold winds.9th Nov sees an improvement with rise in temperature and 10th-15th nice days until 16th when progressive colder period arrives with variable winds and from 18th to end of month I'm afraid localised snow and the inevitable frosts arrive. Eclipse of the Moon 30th Nov. O/H tells me he is still picking Runner Beans but Tomatoes definitely finished. I have chosen which raspberries to split and move...Just hope ground is not getting too hard to work. Here is the Lunar Calender from 5th Nov-15th Nov. 5th-6th Nov. Flower Days Moon on the cusp of ascending and descending so a little muddled, Lift he last of the Dahlias/Cannas/Gladioli and Begonias and store them in dry shelter. I stick my Dahlias upside down in orange boxes to let excess sap out and I find it stops Tubers rotting. Leaving all mine outside in the ground though this Winter well protected with bracken.Clear borders and throw away annuals giving seed beads a good shake to release any old seed. 7th-8th Nov. Moon descending in Cancer so Water sign and Leaf Days. Blanche dandelions/celery and chicory. By covering with opaque pots. Should be ready in 3-4wks. 9-10th Nov. Moon descending in Leo so Fruit and Seed days. If you have no frost, plant out bare root Fruit Trees and if they still have leaves on spray them with Prele (Marestail Purin) or Bordeaux Mixture to control fungal attack. Take cuttings from Figs. 11th-13th Nov. Root Days. Lift all Root Crops and Leeks as required. Bank up with straw or bracken to protect balance left in garden against heavy frost or snow. In milder areas plant Shallots and Garlic who like a cold start to life. 14th Nov No gardening recommended as Moon périgée. 15th Nov Flower Days Prune and burn the last of flowering shrubs unless healthy then shred and pop on compost heap. Do not cut down grasses as not only do they make excellent shelter for insects and voles etc, they would be weakened. Wait until next Spring when a quick chop will give them a boost. Cut back shrub roses and don't be shy of taking growth down by at least half. This will stop wind rock plus the roots will grow better next Spring.
Well that should keep you busy until I get home. Thank you for your support through this difficult time and Happy Gardening.😊😊😊😊😊
Hello , good to hear you’ve been genetically modified ! And back home soon to cats 🐈 hubby 🕺🏼& garden 🍂
Hospital Hotel sounds quite good and I bet the foods excellent Didn’t realise computer tablets could send you do lally !!!!!
Thanks for update
We are going into another lockdown for 4 weeks but can go to allotment, I’m pleased to say Having real problems in obtaining Garlic , shallots & winter onions 🧅 to plant However managed to get the last 2 winter onions packets last week Have ordered some garlic today from a Scottish Nursery , can’t get any shallots at moment Dalias always cut down after first frost , not happened yet but looking at your forecast not long and leave in ground but mulched , no doubt one year the cold might finish them off Decided to treat ourselves to a new storage shed at allotment as I’m fed up trying to repair the old one we inherited , so that’s my lockdown project
Hi. Hospital hotel like Colditz!!! And food dire...Like being back in boarding school. Not allowed to use Residents Kitchen due to Covid. Raised hospital Cafe for supplies which you are not allowed to have in your room. Breakfast 8-8.30am. Dinner (no lunch) 7.30-8pm! BUT they do have a Garden which is actually quite nice😊 I cashed in on a Promo with Thompson & Morgan so seeds etc all ordered.enough for 2yrs as with the dreaded Brexit we shall not be allowed simple joys like that. I wonder why you can't get onions.Have you got yours Obelixx or are you waiting to plant in February? New shed sounds like excellent project. I want a wheelbarrow...,After 23yrs ours is on its last legs! Beautiful day today in Lille just can't get on with constant traffic noise.
Hospital hotel sounds horrid. How do they expect people to recover on bad food? Can you get take-away delivered?
I planted my garlic on Wednesday but need OH to fork over some more bed before I can get the shallots in. Not growing onions this year but have seeds to try sowing pink Niort onions, like the pink Brittany ones, in spring. No gardening yesterday but today I got OH to come and help me plant some flwoering shrubs and we've had a mn round to discuss restoring the barns, post tornado.
Our hens are settling in well and for the last few days we've been letting them out into the whole of the potager area including the polytunnel which is still open by day. We've put the hoops and butterfly netting over the garlic bed to keep them off and ordinary green netting round our young PSB and cavolo nero patch but 2 hens got in there today. Much clucking when I went to get them out.
Dahlias still going strong but they'll probably be moved to a new bed as the one they're in is easier for the seep hose and I want it for growing broad beans which will have to go in over the next fruity ascending moon. End of month?
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Take-aways banned!!!! Walked to Aldi today in search of survival rations!! Supposed to take 10mins took me 20 to get there and over an hour to get back!!! Did not realize how weak I was but rations stashed away in chest of drawers in room. Much tutting when I asked to put yoghurt in fridge. Never thought an apple could taste so good!!! I grew the Niort onions from sets last year. Fabulous. Hens sound a challenge. So many high rise buildings here have yet to see Moon or stars. So depressing.. Have tentatively booked taxi home for Wednesday 11th despite Bank Holiday hospital taxi still working. Praying I get all clear for short break at home as back here 18th for Scan but only for the day thank goodness. Longing to stomp round garden.Pleased we're in lockdown it will be lovely and peaceful again and the deer should be back by the lake. Have a good weekend. Weather sunny and dry here...I want my garden. O/H tells me cats have caught mole at last Hurray!!😊
Hello , last 2 days at allotment , lots done 1 bed of onions 🧅 planted , asparagus cut down and mulched Some pruning done , large pile for burning 🔥 Was hoping to go tomorrow as well but rain forecast
Hope you get out next week , I’m sure you’ll feel better at home
O/H tells me Beans have finished and he has started to clear lots of old Tom plants out of greenhouse. At last he agrees that we need new wheelbarrow!! Wheel has rusted through and he trpped over it and fell into new compost heap pit!! Wish I had been there!!!😊😊 You have been busy GWRS very envious ...Still not long now!!
Obelixx in answer to your question re sowing Broad Beans. 17/18/19th Nov Moon on cusp of descending and ascending in Sagittarius so these would be good days. As you are in a mild area you could leave it until 28th which is the next Fruit Day and Round Peas are recommended. I think the 19th would be preferable as Moon tucked into ascending Mode which would encourage quicker sprouting. Remember to sow quite deeply though as Temperatures set to drop sharply if you leave it to end of month. I think I would also sow them in pots and overwinter them in polytunnel. Let us know which you choose. (Probably not old enough yet but if you do have some old Chicken Manure mixed with straw as opposed to wood shavings. Pop some in the bottom of lots of rows before sowing) For those new to this method if Chicken Manure is too fresh it will burn seed or plants due to ammonia content. Also do not use Chicken Manure Pellets as they will have to be dampened to take effect and you do not want to rot your seed. Happy Gardening 😊😊😊
Hello , another day at allotment Great pile of pruning burnt by o/h while I prepared beds for second of onions 🧅 & a bed of garlic 🧄 . Managed to get some garlic Mail order from a specialist grower in Scotland 🏴 , looks really good stuff I tend to scatter chicken pellets on the soil and rake it in , good stuff Trimmed lavender and filled bird feeders up A bit Misty first thing then a bit of sun , quit a warm day again
