Thank you Obelix and biofreak. Yes I am in the UK (Devon). I feel reassured that your calendar corresponds with Nick Kollerstrom's; I have been wondering about the N/K diary that I have been following because of a few 'discrepancies' which could well be misunderstanding on my part! A few examples ... 30th April - a leaf day ... 'Start some early cauliflowers' 30th June - a flower day ... 'Plant brussel sprouts, cabbage, savoys and broccoli' 8th August - a leaf day ... 'Transplant flower seedlings this morning, plant daffodils and take cuttings from rambling roses'. All this, together with Mothering Sunday on 22nd March AND 10th May makes me question the integrity of the diary which I follow 'almost religiously' (bar a few errors!). I love the idea of planting by the moon so will follow this thread with great interest.
Last w/e was just the BEST garden fair on the planet and being the FIRST one this year loads and loads of plants to choose from at really reasonable prices. All of us sold out of everything despite pouring rain all w/e the gardeners came wearing their masks and gloves plus carrying their sanitisors. The ambiance was fantastic. Also there was an amazing golden full moon each night - A real Harvest Moon -superb.This w/e we have Saveurs d'Automne with more pals and plants. Good weather forecast. 1-16th Nice sunny days although occasional showers and very humid so beware mildew. 17-19th wet in coastal and northern areas. 20-23rd high winds and cloudy From 24th watch out for drop in temperature and frosts. For the end of the month wet and foggy. Automnal feel into October.
I start my Car-T Cell Therapy next week in Lille, The cells go to USA for 4/6 weeks then come back and are popped back into my body and I am locked away for 5 weeks!!!but can continue writing gardening plans -Just no home no garden.
Here is the Lunar Gardening Schedule for 4-11th September
4/5/6th Sept - Moon ascending in Pisces so Leaf Days. Re sow bald areas of lawn particularly where moles have been active. Sow green manures /Lambs Lettuce and Spinach. On 6th gardening not recommended before 12.35am Moon apogee.
7th Sept -Just One Fruit Day. Cut away several leaves around vine tomatoes to encourage ripening. Keep picking ripened fruit and cucumbers to encourage final spurt of crop.
8/9/10 Sept. Root Days Sow some catch crop radishes and some Leeks for early harvest next year. On the 11th no gardening recommended before 5.10am (Don't think you would be anyway!!DARK!!) Noeud ascending.
So that kicks us into September -Where has this year gone I ask myself. It was sheer joy to pal up with other Plantsman and Producers at the w/e -Normally we are on our knees after ther Season but we were as fresh as daisies, and looking forward to the Autumn Fairs.
Hello glad Fair went well Thanks for update Currently on holiday in Tenby , mixed weather and lots of changes due to Covic 1 Hope your treatment goes well Stay safe
We came from Devon to France S/Barn doing Cream Teas for Devon County Council for Twinning Fair. Our part of Normandy on the Cotentin is not disimilar to the South Hams so we feel much at home. ---I don't think your book is totally wrong just perhaps not edited. Broccoli are classified as Flowers and Cauliflower can be classisfied as Flowers or Leaves which makes life complicated -I think as with everything Common Sense must prevail.
So here is the Lunar Calender 13-22nd September
13/14th Sept - Moon descending in Cancer so Leaf Days. Why not have a go at planting a Grape Vine -If you have a useless stony patch it will thrive, particularly against a dry wall. One of those 'What on earth can I put here' joys. Take cuttings from evergreens and prick out Cabbages sown 7-10th August.
15/16th Sept - Moon descending in Leo so Fruit & Seed Days. Plant new strawberries and Bush Fruit in containers. Pop a slate under Pumpkins/Courgettes and Melons to aid ripening off by letting the sun seep into the stone and radiate back during the night. Doing this also stops them from rotting with humidity from heavy dews at this time of year.
17/18/19th Sept - New Moon at 12am no gardening recommended on 18th after 9.35am as Moon perigee. Root Days. Start planting out red or white onions sown 12-14th August making sure that they are in full sun, as Winter light and shade will set them back.
20/21 Sept - Moon descending in Libra so Air & Flower Days. Plant out all shrubs that like Acid Soil -Azaleas/Pieris/Rhododendrons. They will thank you for a touch of ericaceous compost and planting at this time of year which will give them a head start into the Winter.
22/23rd Sept - Leaf Days. Plant out Conifers and evergreen shrubs. Blanche scaroles/endive and celery. On 23rd no gardening recommended after 8.25am on 18th as Noued descending.
So there you are plenty to do in addition to the usual. My garden is like a jungle, needs a good clear up, but so many wild leaves for salads and flowers seeding up that I am tempted to leave it awhile. Sucumbed to plants to add to the Bog Garden last w/e at Plant Fair so must crack on and get them in -Am I the only person who lengthens or widens perfectly good existing beds every year??!! -I do have some older plants to dig up and throw away in the Rockery (Old Lavender/Rosemary and a couple of Rock Roses) Trouble with digging up or even picking herbs is the cats always join me rolling over and over in ecstacy at the aromates, especially if I brush against Catnip. Ah that reminds me we have 2 very busy Moles -One behind the Polytunnel and one on top of the Rockery. Both kicking up hills faster than I can remove them. Still earthing up the Broccoli really well with this wonderful soil.
Have a good w/e and Happy Gardening plus enjoy Tenby GWRS.
Hello , nice holiday in Tenby , busier than normal and a few places closed down permanently Have been really busy since got back , we had a new electric roller blind garage door fitted , so had to sort out garage which is really just a large utility room , very pleased with results Allotment , have picked loads of outdoor tomatoes 🍅, o/h made chutney , froze some , Passata & ratatouille Also our best ever Quince harvest o/h made so jam today and gave the rest away Picked the last of the Courgettes & cucumbers today
Autumn 🍂 seems to be approaching very quickly , lots of tidying up in Garden tomorrow
Didn't see your last post @biofreak as I was away in Namur without internet cos of moving Possum from shared apartment to solo studio. 3 week lead time for connections. She desperately needs a holiday and some TLC after all those months on her own during lockdown so I brought her home and we've been busy since so no gardening.
However, this morning we went and fetched 6 rescue chickens who are now installed in their new home and have already laid 3 eggs and I'm looking forward to them being let loose in the potager when they're ready so they can eat pests and weedlings and also provide me lots of lovely compost material and a few eggs. We don't need 6 hens' worth of eggs but I have neighbours and friends who can eat them and the space for 6 hens in search of a good life.
Hope all is well with you.

Good to have your news. Good luck with the chickens Obelixx always good to give animals a fresh life. O/H must be exhausted GWRS!!! and I thought I was busy!! Festival of 1001 Vegetables absolutely super despite pouring rain/wind and cold. The gite in the grounds was lovely and cosy and we met up with some lovely clients and friends. Found out lots about Lombocomposting (worm composting) plus what you can do with all the extracted juices. Not sure I would bother to go to the effort though, as do seem to be able to produce good wormy compost using BioD methods myself. What are your thoughts??
The Lunar Weather Report for October is basicly wet and automnal from 1-10th with warmer days 11-15th. Very variable 16-21st and frost predicted 22/23rd. 24-31st Much colder with fog and rain, at the end of the month the first snows should appear on higher ground. Cheerful month isn't it?!!! No mention of high winds this w/e but French and UK weather seem to think we shall get them. We have Orties en Folies on Sunday (The Crazy Nettle Fair) Not sure we shall go as weather predictions really bad, and all of us are outdoors due to Covid Regulations.
Supposed to go into hospital for 5 weeks on Monday but delayed as cells not back from USA yet (I hope Trump has not got hold of them!!!) Should only be a 7 day hold up and lots of extra tests and pills in between. Actually feel really good although the delay is a bit of an anti climax -Still I can do some more tidying up in the garden and we seem to have a sudden flush of Runner Beans so more freezing to do.. O/H has given me directions to make another flower bed as he doesn't like mowing around my Raised Beds HURRAY!!!! -My cunning plan has worked, I can increase the Potager and move dahlias and lupins into a bed to border it. So many molehills that top up soil readily available.
Full Moon this morning 6am superb. Really low in the sky looked like mini Sun.
1/2/3rd October are Leaf Days so pop in some Winter Spinach/Winter Lettuce and Lamb's Lettuce. Cover with a cloche or fleece over hoops against heavy rain and colder temperatures brewing. Sow Green Manure (The Spinach will double up well for this and then you can eat it as well.) Cut down as opposed to pulling up Frech Beans, leaving cut foliage on top of soil and roots in. Both will add Nitrogen to soil and stop rains leaching out goodness. On 3rd no gardening recommended after 1.15pm Moon apogée.
4/5th October Moon ascending in Aries so Fruit and Seed Days. In milder regions sow some Broad Beans (I am going to put mine in the Raised Bed where I had potatoes as it is sheltered and super soil) Pop them in pockets of 3/5's so that they grow as a bunch and hold each other up as they get taller. (Good tip against gales) Sowing now also should be early enough to avoid voles and shrews munching the shoots as they will not be searching for these yet as still plenty of insects and seeds around)I am growing Aquadulce again as it overwintered really well last year) -I shall still pop some in the greenhouse though as a back up.
6/7/8th October Root Days Sow some last minute Radishes under cover -they should be ready for salads in 3/4 weeks. No gardening recommended on the 8th before 6.35am (as though you would!!! It's pitch black!!!) Noued Ascending.
9/10th October Cross over between Ascending and descending Moon so weather very unpredictable but Flower Days so plant out bi-annuals and perennials sown 9/10th July. Spring Bulbs and Lilies (Not Madonna Lilies) Cut back Artichokes and cover with straw or bracken against Winter frosts.
There we are for now -That should keep us all going!
Start to wrap up warm and Happy Gardening!!...Shepherdsbarn where are you???
October is coming in with a bang tonight @biofreak so we will not be venturing out and it will be worse further north in Brittany.
The hens arrived on Saturday and all except one are now happy to potter about outside tho she did escape out into their pen when I went to freshen up their straw and bedding yesterday evening. Hope tonight's winds don't scare them silly.
I have loads of plants in pots still, waiting for their new bed, so this pm will be spent moving the bigger ones under shelter so they don't get blown over in the winds.
Couldn't have a wormery in Belgium as they'd have frozen every winter and don't see the point here when we have some much compost on the way and plans for a comfrey bed. I shall leave worms where they belong, in the soil and compost heaps.
5 weeks is a long time! Hope you have plenty to read, sew, knit, embroider etc to keep you busy and that the treatment works.
Stay safe.
