Have just picked the first of our big beef tomatoes to have for dinner.  Been picking Sungold for a couple of weeks now.   Nor rain for days and days so butts in the potager empty but I do have a 4M seep hose looping around all the toms in the polytunnel.  They get half an hour a day as do the cucs, chillies, pepper and lemon grass in there.

We had some beetroot roast with garlic and thyme alongside a slow roast shoulder of lamb a couple of weeks ago.  It's delish.  Freshly picked beetroot is also very good in Madhur Jaffrey's beetroot with onions and cumin (and chili and tomatoes).  I've been using pointy cabbage to make kimchi and red cabbage to make my stand-by red salad for simple lunches.   Courgettes have been fine but they are yellow ones OH bought as plants.   I have 3 squashes coming along nicely - Crown Prince, Spaghetti squash and Utchiki Kuri and two self sown ones are rampaging around in this year's leek patch.

Today I've been planting shrubs in a new bed, mostly for foliage and form but some do flowers too.   5.5M x 3.5 against a west facing stone wall so they'll get loads of light and plenty of rain - when there is any - but not start baking till about 2pm at this time of year.

It's great.  We had 3 cucs ready on one day so I made cucumber, pea and lettuce soup.  That should be 40 metres, not 4, for that seep hose.   Took a lot of laying and pegging but has been worth it.

    Bio , thanks for update
I was just thinking my 2 Pear 🍐 Espaliers need a summer prune
Spent a full day at allotment today , lots done , picked more gooseberrys & courgettes

Also picked a ripe Fig , get loads of fruit but rarely ripen , so this was a great surprise

Pulled the Pak Choi 🥬 up , cleaned it of weeds and put it to bed as I’ve nothing to put into it
Will start picking carrots 🥕 and beetroot at the weekend , also blueberries not loads but they taste so good compared to shop bought ones

Agree about potatoes , dig as needed to start with

Your vegetables festival sounds a fabulous place
    Happy gardening

Gosh you have been so busy! I cut our second cucumber yesterday and left O/H in charge of watering for 48hrs whilst I while the time in hematology having last chemo session! Last night AT LAST managed to master download of July issue of Gardeners World which I shall start reading later today. Why is technology so complicated??! Give paper and pencil plus old fashioned telephone every time!!! HOWEVER we would not be chatting like this through the ether and sharing our ideas so perhaps I shouldn't complain! My tomatoes are just beginning to turn so looking forward to them. No more hospital until September so I can enjoy yummy veg from my own plot before then. Obelixx looking at the age of your home ...do you have a Well or Spring? At Bernay where Festival of 1001 Vegetables is they water their plot with a deep hose direct from Well via pump system. They also heat the gite using an underwater system originally developed by the Romans.
Whilst typing this with one finger on my Tablet I am thinking about your beetroot with lamb ..Do you keep them whole or halve them plus how long do they need?? I serve lamb with beetroot in white sauce yummy!
GWRS are you still eating green gooseberries or the red ones? Our red ones have just finished. Now have to sort out blackbird that insists that wild raspberries are the best thing for breakfast!! Meant to tell you that other evening there were 2 deer round the fishing lake with fawns. Hunter neighbour told me that it would have been a female trying to draw me away from her fawn the other day as they make that alarm call. Luckily they are not allowed to hunt near the lake so the family should be safe.
Better stop chunting ..Looking forward to home tomorrow!
    Happy Gardening!😊

There is a well @biofreak and the title deeds say we have to allow our neighbours access to its water but it's been dry for many years.    There's a 40m deep quarry along the road and our farmer neighbour reckons it's dropped the water table.

Our pond still has water but is full of frogs and toads and maybe newts so I won't be pumping that out.   The seep hoses are much more efficient than a sprinkler and I've bought a new one for when one veggie bed empties and I convert it to soft fruits - black and redcurrants, red gooseberries, rhubarb and my two nectarines and a peach currently in pots.

What a shame about the well.We had one at our first house here and it emptied very quickly but magically refilled when it rained so really useful. I agree I would not disturb the pond. Our neighbour draws water via a ditch to the fishing lake..where there's a will there's always a way in France!!!The mayor doesn't know and he supplies her with illicit Calvados anyway!!!!

Sorry @biofreak - forgot to wish you well for your treatment and recovery.

Our vet recommended giving worming pills to our cats and dogs at the full moon but then he's also keen on homeopathy and, as it turns out, sewing.   I tried it but have no way of knowing if it works better.
