Hello , thanks for update Cucamelons , are ok ,they grew really well , o/h also pickled some not tried them yet , will let known Hawthorn Hedges nearly all in bud and looking good and spring bulbs coming up Finished pruning trees & bushes today plus pollarded an Willow on the stream bank Hoping to go to allotment tomorrow Enjoy the Farmers Market
Beautiful weather today and whilst non food shops/bars & cafes are shut, took myself off to DIY Centre to pick up some extra wood for O/H -Notice to say Closed except for professionals (ie Builders) -So gone was my chance for a quick browse over the Gardening Section. -Yesterday I planted out Muscari and Snowdrops amongst Primroses in Hedgerow to flower next Spring. One Bush Rose 'Chippendale' and one Clematis (Not Armandii) trying to bloom already!Must get out there this afternoon as just had phone call from Gardening Association to say my seeds have arrived!!! Picking them up Wednesday, so lots to do. Unfortunately received emails this morning advising 2 Garden Fairs cancelled as expecting more than 1,000 visitors so not allowed to open. Such a shame, I don't know what the Nurserymen are going to do this year. Garden Centres I assume are shut as 'non essential' - So glad we are certainly 75% self sufficient for veg. Such a hardy bunch us Gardeners I don't think that we shall have many problems as I had already bought my extra Seed Compost and Potting on Soil in Bags. and the Supermarkets have just stocked their gardeing section. We do have to Stand 1 metre away from the person in front at the
Checkouts on measured lines, but the Trolly taked that up anyway. Farmers Markets still going ahead so still baking. Quantity a problem as no-one going out!!
I took a chance on the DIY shop being open and managed to buy the wood I need and the paint to finish Possum's room. Detour to get there cos of recent flooding f the Lay wrecking a bridge and I noticed CAVAC (agricultural cooperative) in mareuil-sur-Lay is open and selling gardening stuff, agricultural stuff and animal feeds.
Our garden club's annual plant fair in April is being postponed as the nurserymen and women have asked for that rather than total cancellation. I expect my local one in Angles will be cancelled too and that's where I get my tomato plants so a bit of a bummer.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

The May batch of Fairs are still optimistic but April certainly seems to be a non starter. Can you buy Tomato Plants at the Marché near you?. We can (not yet but certainly they should be available within next 3 weeks.) Usually lots of choice.
Chappy at Angles does heritage varieties which I haven't seen anywhere else. I can get bog standard in various plant places but not markets for some reason.

Hello , CV19 is starting to have an effect hear and now escalating Spent a full day at allotment ,lots of jobs done At moment due to go to Tenby at Weekend but not sure at moment ?
Hello , I’m in the U3A , do you have that organisation in France ?
As from last night all meetings & visits cancelled until further notice , the Voluntary shut down has begun Also decided not to go to on Holiday Tenby Looks like I will be doing lots of gardening until this is all over
There isn't one here in the Vendée GWRS but all social and sporting and cultural groups have been cancelled so no patchwork, mosaic or dance classes for me, no golf for OH, no garden visits and meetings. Everyone is expected to isolate themselves as much as possible so no family, social or sporting gatherings at all.
We now have to carry a signed "attestation d'honneur" provided by the French equivalent of the Home Office if we leave the house to walk the dogs, shop for groceries but are otherwise expected to stay as close to the house as possible and keep away from other people so no driving to the beach for walkies.
Plenty to do in the house and garden and internet/email/phone to stay in contact with loved ones.

Farmers Market this am a joy. We saw all our favourite clients and they all kept the new 1metre distance between themselves in the cue. (Can't see Brits doing that!) Brilliant sales -all cakes went so have taken the rest of my Carrots out of my Store to make Carrot Cakes for Thursday Market. Even the supermarket customers were standing 1 metre distance on the designated paper strips. Police on roundabouts checking cars to see where they were going. Army supposed to be out in key infected areas, plus building a Field Hospital in Alsace. My Dr brother in UK has had to shut his Surgery -too many timewasters apparently. Those in quarantine he will not be visiting.
Re Tomatoes;- If you can trace the name of your tomato man Obelixx -Give them a ring and they should be able to tell you where to find them. I've got an assignation with the Gardening Club Seed Buyer tomorrow outside Super-U, so we can both say we are shopping!!!
Nurse tonight at her Surgery -I expect to meet police enroute and don't want the threatened fine so must rush to print off attestation d'honneur.
Also must get into the garden while sun shining at last!! O/H mowing lawn.
Happy Gardening to all, let's just hide away and make the most of it!
