It's amazing what you can dig up. New house with a brick raised bed covered with paving stones. Decided to open it back up to plant. Removed paving, then six inches of sand after that things got interesting. Started to find metal tubes ( maybe leftover water feature) then string, no webbing what on earth. After half hour uncovered a frame , it turned out to be a folded garden lounger. Removed it,  more sand with something else . It was 8 full tomato grow bags. At that point I stopped. Worried what else could be there so just filled it with compost and soil and it's a lovely bed.🤔😁

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

As we were grave diggers some years ago, digging a big hole comes easy to my OH,  sink, pedestal loo and cistern is now 6’ under.
Really? I take it you mean as a job, rather than for stealing jewellery and gold teeth? Lol

The truth is probably closer to the problems caused by commercial waste being snuck into the council depots in private cars and our council taxes have been paying for it. Builders and 'property developers' have been taking advantage of the system for years which is why the tips are wary of things like plumbing fixings especially. Add to that the lack of investment in biomass energy generation which means most councils have to pay to get rid of green waste rather than making money from it.

I believe the approved method for getting rid of soil is one handful at a time, shaken down your trouser leg...

Councils clear up after travellers but fine people who put their bins out on the wrong day, the police do nothing to travellers who damage gates or drive vehicles over municipal parks but threaten to take cycles off of 5 year old's for riding their bikes on the pavement. Just saying like!

Definitely professional we were taught by an expert😀
we are au fait in all things Churchyard.
The hole wasn’t really 6’ deep, more like 3, it smashed down well with a sledge hammer.

Good plan!  If you get bitten by the gardening bug you won't regret it.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
