@Joyce Goldenlily thanks for the suggestion of writing to the council officer but I don't want to bother him until he bothers me. I do hope that your health improves I know from my own experience that learning that we can't physically do what we used to is so frustrating and am coming to terms with that fact myself. My wife has been waiting for a hip replacement for some time now and will be going into hospital this Friday, this morning I had a phone call offering me a cancellation for my operation for tomorrow which I had to decline because we can't both be incapacitated at the same time, I hope that doesn't put me to the back of the cue. I hope that you keep well in the future best of luck with your own health problems.
Thanks Barry Island, My good wishes to your wife with her hip op. I have had both knees replaced and had one of my ankles replaced twice so know what it is like post op. The main thing is for you to support her to do her exercises after her op. It is painful and exhausting but so essential for a quicker and more successful recovery. What a shame your op. has had to be delayed. The NHS are trying so hard to catch up with operations after the Covid Shut down. I have spent a lot of time since pre Covid trying not to bother anyone with what I considered my trivial problems. A big mistake. Several of my issues were apparently warning signs of a heart attack, which were not picked up by anyone. I am lucky to still be around to annoy people! With enough energy to do it. I have just spoken to a friend whose husband, I had heard on the grapevine, had been taken ill at the same time as myself. He has had a massive stroke so needs full time nursing. How awful would that be? Poor souls, what a life changing experience for both of them. My current situation pales into insignificance and I should be grateful my situation is not nearly as bad as it could be. I hope you do not have to wait too long for your own appointment.
I’ve been adjusting to old age , as I certainly can’t do what I use to eg. now have a little trolly for moving bags of compost as I can’t carry them from car to where I want them & pots
The NHS are trying hard under enormous strain, my wife has had both her knees replaced in the last two years and now getting her hip replaced, I was surprised that she could be out and at home the next day, they hope to replace the other hip within three months. On the other hand our dentist has stopped doing NHS work and there's no chance of finding another one so we have had to go private.
It was good to read I am not the only bionic woman around! Don't get me started on NHS dentists. I moved to Cornwall 20 years ago and have never been able to register with one. I use a sack trolley to move bags of compost, shopping etc., from my car, down steps into my garden. I even use it to move bags of fuel /logs into the house for the fire.
I did a lot of grass strimming yesterday, then sowed 3 lots of dwarf French beans , the soil was nicely damp, but not wet even after the rain. I hope the germination is much better than the peas, and climbing beans even the ones sown in modules were a disappointment. Not sure weather to risk a late sowing of mangetout, tradition has it that peas sown after the solstice will invariably fail due to powdery mildew.
@Allotment Boy , personally I think the seasons are a bit messed up with climate change and I play it by instinct , some times it works & some times it doesn’t but that gardening anyway . Always at the mercy of the weather 🌧🌞❄️💨
Went to allotment in the week and thinned out apples 🍎 & pears 🍐 Never had so many apples
Been to day o/h picked lots of soft fruit , strawberries , raspberries red & white currants , jostaberrys
Picked broad beans & spring onions which have done well , however , onions 🧅 look very poor !
I replaced 3 fence posts , in stead of putting them in the ground I’m now putting them in a buckets of post concrete and burying the bucket in the ground , hopefully they won’t rot so quickly ?
Went to plots yesterday late to water greenhouse, plus a few other key plants. Glad I ignored the weather forecast this morning and went again, I took a chance on the rain coming and didn't water generally, re-tied the outdoor tomatoes and cleaned up some lower leaves to let the light into the fruit. Did quite a lot of feeding with liquid seaweed. Finally got to weeding the raspberries, very overdue so glad I got it done. Some plants that were being very slow are finally picking up but several are still very behind where they should be.
@Allotment Boy hello again , had a long day at allotment to day One of the crops doing very well is the raspberries, I’ve a double row , so you can walk down the middle as well , however, they have put on so much growth almost impossible to walk down the middle The same with the Autumn Raspberries , so much growth !
Strawberries 🍓 are finished now Been a good year for soft fruits , gooseberries, particularly the red ones
I have so many self seeded foxgloves , I’m treating them as weeds !
