@amancalledgeorge Chose a plot near to the water supply if they have one as you won't want to carry watering cans too far, also not to far from the parking area if you intend to use a car as you don't want to be trudging miles carrying equipment. My plot is on the west side of the site and I believe that is why (touch wood) my plot has never had potato blight where people in the middle and East side have, my theory is that as the wind comes mainly from the west the clean air without virus comes from the houses and not from infected plots, (yes some plot holders don't clear away diseased material) and any potato blight will spread to other plots if the wind is in that direction.

Did a long session  yesterday,  a lot of time taken up watering.  I have only watered seedlings and new plantings up to now as the soil was still nice and damp.  Now when planting some big Dahlia tubers, noticed it's dry down to a spade depth so watered everything.  Planted rest of Dahlias,  Chrysanthemums,  pumpkins,  did a lot of hoeing,  and netted the cherry as the pigeons have started attacking them even though they are still green.  First picking of strawberries as a reward. 🙂

Planted 22 sweetcorn plants (incredible) yesterday and erected posts and wire netting fence to keep the deer off will have to go up early tomorrow to water everything as it is forecast to be scorchio!

Hope you are feeling better soon garden girl. Odd how it affects us all so differently. I was fine just a little lump where the needle went in.

No rabbits or Deer but pigeons, magpies, and squirrels a plenty.  Netted the Cherry the other day as stones on the ground below even though the fruit is still green.

  • The plot I picked (was lucky enough to have four to choose from) is indeed about twenty steps from the water supply which is great @barry island at least it's fairly clear but will have to start with the bindweed this week with digging starting tomorrow. So glad to have a tiny Anderson Shelter as my shed too.

The road is not too far to bring materials over...so should be fine, intend to bring the car very infrequently as it's so near and should be able bring plants and equipment incrementally.

@amancalledgeorgeLooks quite good the only problem that I can see is that the ground might be a bit hard for digging, I don't know if you approve of using weedkiller but I used a Glyphosate from B&Q but I see now they do one Glyphosate free for about the same price that I paid 9 years ago, apply it on a dry calm day keep the spray head just above the weed growth and after about two weeks I could just pull the majority of weeds out by hand. Good luck I was up the plot this morning for 5 hours it was hot hot hot but I managed to get a pumpkin plant in, two cucumber, two courgette, cosmos and marigolds and watered everything, I have just about caught up from the late start.

@amancalledgeorge I have seen worse. Another approach would be to strim it down,  and then use a flame gun,  like Chris Beardshaw did on Beechgrove recently.  You can hire such things. Cover with black plastic except for the bit you want to start digging. Good luck.
