Repotted all the Bishop's children on for the second time. Had the free seeds from GW and thought "ooh let's try these this year". I only sowed half the packet but had almost full germination and now have lots of healthy baby dahlias taking over the house.
Finished digging bog-friendly peat into my front border and planted Rhododendron ponticum "luteum". I planted one two years ago to see if it would grow in my soil - we're on limestone. It has survived, and flowered, but doesn't look exactly thriving, hence the addition of peat to try and lower the pH a bit before planting four more.
Planted up my new flower bed and OH has edged one of my veg beds with concrete edging, dug it over and piled on the compost. Ready for parsnips seeds in the 1st June.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
More over a few days, but saved a dahlia Bishop of Llandalf. Planted in the ground last year, wasn’t quick enough to protect it and snails chomped off all the new growth. Placed a mesh food dome over the top, covered in snail slime but the plant underneath is growing back. Planted out my pot grown dahlias. Suitably protected!
