  • Not done today, started about 2 weeks ago. But I've only just found this thread!

I added a border to my garden that hasn't been touched for almost 30 years! My dad had originally put borders in but the grass had totally grown into them. The soil was so compacted that a spade wouldn't even go in an inch. I had to bash it all in with a fork and work loads of compost and topsoil in. Now its lovely and fluffy!

After adding the compost and topsoil:

You can see in this picture how grey and just not very nice the old stuff was:

Still need to get all the rubble and turf out of the other border on the left. But this is something I've wanted to do for ages and have finally managed to do it when usually I just give up on dreams!

    Now to get everything planted!

Potted up 70 odd plug plants on my day off. Amazing how much you end up talking to plants or was it praying :) I hope they grow and fill the large gaps next year..
  • I spent two hours cutting back an out of control rambling Rose, maybe not the best time to do it but the postman's life was in imminent danger!  :D

Last year we dug up a very ancient miners coal pick, covered in thick rust, the wooden handle had rotted away. Having caught up a bit with the garden, decided to find out more about it,and give it a good clean about a week or so ago. OH made a new handle.
Now it hangs on the wall as a tribute to the hard working miner who lived here.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
